Tell me, dear reader, where do you hold your fear? Does it lurk in the depths of your stomach, stealing your appetite? Do you cage it within your gaze, perhaps hoping that it will prove powerful enough to scare the rest of the world away? Or, like Aerin, do you swallow your fear? Perhaps you want to be punished. You feel paralyzed and weak. You've never been so small, nor your fears so big. How many injuries lie in your past? And how many more in your future? After all, it is hard to forget your past when it is carved into your scales.

Oh, reader, perhaps your fear is your soul. Your greatest triumph. And this is what defines Aerin. The ability to extract the dagger embedded within her heart, and in turn use it to mutilate her enemies lifeless corpses.

In order to fully understand the Blade of the Pheonix, as she has come to be known, one must first look to her formative years. Her hatching took place on the night of a blood moon, and aptly so; her being and death were irrevocably convoluted from the second she emerged from her shell. Aerin, the young dragonet, was welcomed into the world with silence. That, and the lifeless body of her mother, sprawled beside her. You see, her mother, shortly before the hatching of her progeny, had killed herself. Brutally so: spearing her heart with a rusted dagger, and expiring upon its hilt. As such, Aerin knew no love as a dragonet. In fact, when she hungered, she turned to feast upon her mother's flesh. One might be so bold as to suggest that this serpentine seductress knew nothing but death from the moment of her birth.

And so, naturally, Aerin became an assassin. She was good at it, too. So much so that her ability to seemingly rise from the ashes of her own reputation earned her the nomenclature that began to define her entire identity: The Blade of the Pheonix.
