Biography

Nephra ~ Nephrite Jade

Warrior Progenitor of this clan, responsible for the gathering of prey and training of youth in combat. A sharp sort of character, prone to biting remarks (and biting things in general). Nephra prefers a simple life of hunting, cooking, and splashing around at the water's surface, eschewing fancier trinkets for a hoard of edible birds and crunchy, bleached-white bones.

"That's one of yours, isn't she?" the Mirror asked. The hatchling he was referring to - not so much a hatchling, now, but it would be a while before the memory of wide eyes and clumsy steps faded - was far closer to his own quadruped, four-eyed and smooth-scaled form, but the child's colouring betrayed her heritage. Yellow-tinged dark greens, pthalo blues and the barest hint of purple; and a training form to be envied. She was her parents child, through and through -even if they no longer resembled her.
The Banescale hummed, the note low and rich. "She is. My Olivia. She is doing well, isn't she, Iio?"
"She is," Iio replied appreciatively. It was always nice, when a youngster took to combat like an Undertide to water. "Will I be getting reports from my dear wife, then?"
The Banescale shook her head. "She's been a little less... religiously inclined, as of late. More interested in exploring the world than finding our Father."
"That's hardly a problem to arrange, Nephra." Iio had to swivel in his seat to look up at her; she was, after all, much taller than him. "You're still worried about her, though."
She harrumphed; deep purple smoke burst into the air, clouding her expression. "I would not be much of a leader if I did not worry, Iio. We cannot all be carefree."
Iio narrowed his first set of eyes at her; the lower set blinked, slowly. "You know that's not what I meant." His claws tapped against the polished stone bench they were sat upon. "You've been watching them much more closely than your last hatch. Something is the matter."
Nephra refused to meet his eye; ever prideful. He sighed, ruffling his wings.
"You'll have to deal with it eventually," he warned her, voice soft. "Maybe not now, but someday. They'll leave you behind, if you don't. Mine did."
Still, she sat, watching her daughter scramble around from on high. Her face was locked-off behind the tightly-packed scales, less expressive than it was mere weeks ago, and Iio wondered if this would be a recurrent theme. He hoped not.
"Just... talk about it with Alexandr, won't you?" he asked. "If you won't talk to me about it. You're peas in a pod, you know."
Nephra glanced down at him for a brief moment, before fixing her eyes back on her daughter. It took a moment, but when she spoke, her voice was steady and firm. "My next child will be a Banescale, Iio. Do you think they will like their siblings?"
Iio blinked at her, two-by-two, and looked away from her, off into the distance where Olivia had become distracted by a rather one-sided game of chase with a nearby gull. "I think," he said, "That you would surely raise any child of yours to have good taste."
