call of the deep lineage project - eerie spiral icon
SKOLL
GENERATION 1

Sing, O Skoll, chaser of the moon. Sing of your desire for glory, sing of those who shiver before your might.

Sing, and show them who you truly are!

A letter written on crisp paper, crinkled slightly from force wrote:
Dear Dr. Ryder

I hope this letter doesn't surprise you, but I had to send this as soon as possible. You told me to update you on any changes in my demeanour. Well, my demeanour has changed. It's bloody changed alright.

As you know, I have had trouble sleeping. Every night since the 34th, I've been having these awful dreams that leave me in my bed, gasping for air. I thought they'd get better after a few therapy sessions with you, plus some dream journaling, but this recent update... it's got my blood running cold.

Two days ago, I began dreaming of the strangest thing. No, this is nothing like those other dreams I've had of losing my net of fish or having my teeth fall out in front of my colleagues. This is worse.

In my dream, I was in the ocean, just floating in an endless abyss, the seabed out of sight. I couldn't see anything in the water, and I remember feeling terrified. And then, just as I feel I'm about to wake from fear, I hear it: this singing, a beautiful, beautiful song that stops my heart from beating and turns my fear dead.

I couldn't move, I couldn't do anything. I just floated there, listening to this... eerie tune. And then, I feel the faintest brush of a current on my back. Something was moving behind me. Two somethings.

Still, I couldn't move, but then I began to sink. My limbs betrayed me, I couldn't wake, I simply continued to sink, and sink. The last thing I saw before darkness swallowed me were two shapes, spiraling above me, spiraling, spiraling...

You are the expert on dreams and psychology here, doctor. Please, I beg you with all my heart, tell me what's going on. I swear in my waking hours, I can still hear the singing. It never seems to stop.

Sincerely,
Matias of Aguilar Stern

Hadal’s monstrous companion, it got stomped by Inkwell when it arrived in the Underbrambles, it knows to behave itself now for the first is always watching.

Guess who! >:D

Its Song is enchanting, a haunting, bone chilling symphony.

It spent its first months with it’s father, although it took Skoll some time to see Nyallr as a father, but when it did, no other description of him stuck. This connection unsettled it. It moved on quickly from home? father’s Nyallr’s home, across the soothing mindless cold to sink into the depths of ink waves. It sank slowly down into the dark, it could feel presence in this lake, at least that meant it wouldn’t go hungry.

Time passed, Skoll determinedly did not miss father Nyallr, it ate, it schemed, it waited. For what, it wasn’t exactly sure, but wait it did. Then in the depths of the soothing dark, its brooding was interrupted by a dragon.

Hadal was a young, starving creature when he swam into its territory. Skoll had never seen a creature with eyes like his before, it was fascinated, it’s touch broke open minds, it knew that by now, but this fascination drove it closer, just barely out of sight, to watch if nothing less, to learn, it’s hunger for knowledge, for understanding was almost as fearsome as its hunger for flesh, or for strength, for the taste of terror or knowledge or power on its teeth it cared not which.

As the days passed its intrigue only grew, Hadal cried to a god for recognition and against its better judgement Skoll shared the sentiment. Acknowledgment, power- it craved it with an insatiable thirst. To understand, to return to the coiling empty thing in its chest the incomplete parts empty and gaping to be acknowledged, to be acknowledged

“She’s your mother.” Mother, mother- who am I- speak to me- ANSWER ME MOTHER! PLEASE!

In its understanding, it sang.

Skoll had sang before of course, it had never been able to form proper draconic words, so instead it sang.

It sang of power, haunting and chilling, hunger, desire, acknowledgment. “I understand” it sang.

It stayed with him, and he let it. Unable to help itself, Hadal’s strange eyes tainted the sea with the intoxicating taste of power and it hungered.

So did he. Hadal was small and weak despite this power, skinny and malnourished, it couldn’t allow that, no, not when it craved his power so deeply. So it fed him and the power leaking from Hadal’s eyes grew stronger.

Hadal was generous with his power, sharing as it shared its prey. It was careful with its devouring, so as not to break his fragile mind. He wanted signs, help, it would help him, its trusting disciple, its favourite food source.

When the larger dragons chased after its disciple, it protected him, naturally, singing them into a trance and feasting on their inner power until their husks floated lifeless in the blackness, no longer a threat.

— — — [fill this in later]

When it seeped out from Hadal’s scales in this strange, dry, place it was found almost instantly by a creature both like and not like itself, it’s power almost crushed Skoll’s consciousness in the seconds before it’s form solidified, the giant creature blocks the sky, taking up every inch of vision. It presses a large paw down on Skoll’s spindly tail and for the very first time in its life, a stick, sticky panic bubbles through its black tar body, it writhes and hisses, sharp threatening notes pouring from its stark white teeth.

The creature tips it’s head towards Skoll and a sharp overwhelming crush consumes its mind

‘I see you.’ the crushing viciousness presses ‘What is your purpose, Dweller?’

”Dweller?” it’s Song is Short and nervous, this has never happened before.

The creature leans back, tilting its head, the pressure against its form softens slightly ‘Your purpose.’ it demands, kinder, less crushing, but firm, unwavering.

Nervous, bubbling and trembling, Skoll sings “Understanding, protection.” Hunger, power, devotion.

Something understanding enters its glowing, piercing eyes. ‘I see…’

— — —

Kind of a parasite, for the most part it takes a non solid, nothing form, whenever it takes a more draconic form it looks like a black spiral like creature, glowing pale eyes and a violent slash of white teeth, goopy little monster. It’s kind (as kind as it can be) to its “disciple” respecting his wishes to not feed from his sister, although in its mind it sees it more as Hadal wanting to keep it to himself and is very smug about it. The relationship between it and Hadal has grown since they arrived at Farrago, as it tries to understand dragons and their ways more effectively. It doesn’t want to break Hadal’s mind, it’s doing it’s best to try to figure out how to care for him the way dragons do.

Nonsense brain dump, will iron out later.
