Umbra is a male pearlcatcher, and he is a perfect match for Telen. Unlike her, Umbra is more thoughtful, and is wary of trusting others. Umbra doesn't love many things, but he does love his family and those he has managed to trust. Being with Telen makes him happier, and so they spend as much time together as they can. He is extremely protective of his hatchlings. He mainly dislikes dragons who won't stop talking, although Telen is the exception.

Umbra is one of the few dragons left in the clan whom still hoards treasure, although his (adopted) sister Hematite does on a smaller scale. He always loves anything sparkly, and will either add it to his hoard or give it as a gift.
