Character Info:
Pronouns: She/They
HeartBound was born deep within the territory of the Shadow Flight, near the foreboding Thorndark Altar. Her parents were fierce zealots, determined to show their loyalty to Shadowbinder by any means necessary. Their family had fallen on hard times, and HeartBound’s parents were desperate to lessen the many things ailing them. Perhaps with the proper sacrifice they would no longer go hungry, would no longer be plagued by famine and illness in equal measure, maybe maybe maybe maybe. Hypotheticals and desperation do not mix well.
In ancient times material goods were offered at the stygian pools present in the Thorndark Altar. They didn’t have any of those; their hoard had gone still. HeartBound though, she was blessed with a crystalline form and jewels embedded into her very form. A beacon of wealth and power, one that garnered hate. HeartBound was none the wiser to what her parents planned to do to them, didn’t know what sinister plans they were conceiving of, didn’t notice the malice brewing within them. No, no they were too young, too innocent, too desperate to be loved. The only thing HeartBound had were their parents, and nothing could shake that resolve. Almost nothing at least.
They were making a yearly pilgrimage to what was left of the altar, the night was cold and dark, the shadows danced even when no light was present. It was that night that HeartBound for the first time heard what her parents were planning, heard the venom that laced their words. They whispered in the night, thinking their child was asleep, thinking their future was secure.
HeartBound could delude themselves no longer. Under the cover of darkness she fled, leaving her parents behind as she braved the wilderness alone. The land Shadow Flight was home to was nothing if not hostile. They were alone, completely and wholly alone in a land that wanted them as dead as their parents did. No relationship was secure, nothing was safe, and no fellow dragon during their trek offered anything but scorn. The Shadow Flight had for them created nothing but agony.
Too much time by yourself can lead to the most horrendous thoughts becoming truth, and HeartBound had countless days to herself. She came to hate her fellow Shadow dragons, came to hate herself, her parents, everything. Life itself had earned her ire. There was nothing left.
That was, until things changed. They stumbled into the Lily Blossom Sanctuary, and were soon met by the maternal love of PassionWing. Her anger was abated (slowly, ever so slowly), and HeartBound wanted nothing more than to ensure her newfound family and life was secure. She is, despite her size, one of the fiercest fighters the Nature Flight has ever seen, her love for others empowering her in numerous magical ways.
Even now, after HeartBound had reached adulthood, after she had found love in a fellow Shadow dragon (DiamondShroud, who continues to break all her barriers down, who continues to shower her in praise and constant affection), she still has plenty of healing to do. Be wary if you ever get on her bad side, as it is often said her rage knows no bounds.
