when the tidelord disappeared, water flight's monopoly on fortune telling and divining snapped. sornieth saw an increase in prophecy around the world, absolutely none of them coming from the tidelord. in the many years since that decentralization, the only place that has not seen even a hint of clairvoyance is dragonhome. until now, that is. while generalizations are not always helpful, most earth dragons really do tend to be practical and not prone to flights of fancy--the culture of dragonhome is one of keeping your nose to the grindstone, of searching for answers in the past rather than the future. even when the art of prophecy was monopolized by the sea of a thousand currents and their whispering god--a monopoly upheld with tooth and claw--it was unhead of for a water flight assasin to be dispatched to dragonhome to take out an up and coming earth seer. which means entheo has no competition. like her fellows in dragonhome, entheo is practical, down to earth, studious. she is, as she was raised to be, perpetually interested in the past. that interest just tends to skew less towards bones and more towards the remaining scraps of a soul. she was raised in the caravan city of moshkaran, and spend most of that upbringing as a gifted apprentice to an incense maker. it was when she began to craft her own blend that she began to see the ghosts. first, they were just fish--the long-dead spirits of the inhabitants of this place that had once been an ocean--and fish always remained the ones her clients could see the moment they walk into her smoke-filled shop. when strangers came to her, haloed in insence smoke, their ancestors came too, full of whispers and warnings and promises. entheo's trade was born there, in passing on the words of the dead. over time, she applied her knowledge of botany--and the knowledge of a plague dragon she'd met many years before--and created a tincture to allow her clients to see the ghosts too. eventually that too grew, to a glimpse into dream-like other world full of tantalizing possibility, but that is saved for only the highest paying customers--importing from the wandering contagion is expensive. |
