Yuelan

月兰 Yuelan (formerly Resha)
A very well known seamstress within the "Red" sect. Starting off lightly outcast for her mixed blood origins, she worked hard to make a name for herself and be as successful as she is today.

Mother is "Red" sect lineage and father was from "Green" sect lineage -
(she is mixed, gets the red/black body from mother and the white horns and green mane from father).

Characterization notes:
- Hard working
- Had to develop a thick skin
- Maybe shut people out as a defense- can’t let anyone in or show vulnerability
- Very perceptive
- People traumadump on her a lot

Yuelan nodded and mm-hm’d and oh-really?’d at perfect intervals as the whiny noble rambled on about her petty personal issues. She paid attention just enough to know when to respond with perfectly-feigned interest and concern, and tuned out the rest so she could take the brat’s measurements as quickly as possible.

“...and then she had the audacity to say it was my fault!” the young noble pouted.

“Absolutely shocking,” Yuelan managed to say around a mouthful of pins. “Extend your left wing, please.”

She obliged, sighing as she shifted her weight. “I purposely tried to stay out of it! I don’t know… maybe I was being unfair.”

“Mmm. It wouldn’t be my place to judge, my lady.”

The girl sighed, looking guilty, and went uncharacteristically silent.

Yuelan relished the silence, but it only lasted a few minutes.

“Do you have any assistants?” the girl asked. “Or is it just you working here?”

“Just me. Left foreleg out, please.”

She extended her claws delicately, allowing Yuelan to re-pin the length of her gauzy sleeves. “It must be a lot of work!”

“It is.”

“Do you enjoy it?”

The seamstress grit her teeth. So many questions, creeping closer to personal things she would rather not discuss.

“I do.”

The young noble seemed unfazed by Yuelan’s monosyllabic answers. “It must be hard, doing everything yourself.”

“It is the most reliable way. Now please, my lady, hold still.”

Yuelan worked swiftly, continually dodging questions until she was ushering the girl out the door of her shop with instructions on when to come back for another fitting.

“You know—” the young noble suddenly turned to smile sheepishly at the seamstress. “I think I am going to apologize to her. You’re such a good listener, it really helped me think through the whole thing!” She pressed an extra coin into Yuelan’s palm. “Please take this, as my thanks. You may have saved a friendship eternally dear to me.”

Yuelan, shocked, could only nod her thanks as the girl bustled away. Pocketing the coin, she felt a stab of guilt that she hadn’t bothered to remember her customer’s name.

- Yuelan, to me, seems like a burnt-out peacemaker type. She exhausted herself trying to see everybody's side, and failed over and over to make everyone happy, so just stopped caring as a defense.

Too Sensitive - Sean Kennedy - “I’m too sensitive, I let every word they say tear me apart / I’m too sensitive, about a million ways you could break my heart”
- Similar to above, she used to be extremely sensitive to others' opinions and has hardened her heart to keep from getting hurt

catch me - JVKE - “Used to feel the sun on my skin / yeah it’s sappy, but that’s the last time I was truly happy / so I’m asking- if I fell down right now, would you catch me?”
- I think it'd be really nice if she had an eventual found family dynamic! I would normally suggest a blossoming romantic relationship to heal her wounded heart, but honestly found family would be such a good flavor for her! Especially given the point about her "mixed" bloodline and probably feeling like she doesn't really belong anywhere. Anyway, this song is about her learning to trust again—trusting after you've been hurt can literally feel like falling and not being sure if the other person is going to be there
