Glimt arrived on the Haven's doorstep almost exactly when the need for a map began to arise. Heavensent and some of the other overseers were immediately relieved, glad of the willing assistance of a professional in their quickly growing clan. Others were wary of the apparent perfect timing, and just how cagey the skydancer is about his past raised further suspicions. But what could he possibly have to gain from the Haven? There is no excess of treasure or power, the land they hold is humble and well-lived, and they have no enemies as far as they're aware. So what's the point of this apparent manipulation? There are clans of pirates that roam the skies of Sornieth, seeking ancient treasures and hidden stockpiles long forgotten by modern-day dragons, often to the detriment of innocent dragons. Glimt signed on with a crew that advertised themselves as 'opportunistic archaeologists.' He turned a blind eye to their nastier business and peered over the side of the ship to survey the landscape and update his collection of 'found' maps. The pirates eventually learned of his skills, and he began helping them identify the locations of troves described and illustrated in treasure maps. He was very skilled at this task, and rumors of his near-supernatural geographical knowledge and memory spread wide. People knew him as "the Golden Mind," and he vainly relished the infamy. Why he quit piracy and showed up on the doorstep of the Haven is still a mystery. Maybe he's simply retired, or maybe he's hiding away from the attentions of the bloodthirsty pirates' prying eyes. Maybe it has something to do with that battered scroll case he always keeps pinned to his side. Who's to say? |
