In the beginning of the Dominance wars, the Eleven fought alongside their Flights, all but guaranteeing victory for whichever army they supported. However, the flights grew from mere armies into full nations and began to see the Eleven as unknowable gods rather than commanders and leaders. Their natures influenced by the will of the people, the elemental spirits retreated from the waking world.

In the last era of the Dominance wars, Earthmovers were built mirroring the Eleven in an attempt to return to this golden age.

Due to their colossal size, these mechanical deities had to be powered by both blood and magic. Though ambient magic siphons would not be developed until well after the war's conclusion, Earthmovers were large enough to carry leyline taps, making them the first machines able to sustain their magic indefinitely. Part of this magic supply went directly into near-impermeable shields, rendering them invulnerable to nearly all external attacks.

It was the Lightning flight that developed and constructed the first Earthmovers, though every other flight still fighting for Dominance or unfortunate enough to be caught in the crossfire quickly followed suit. Central Sornieth erupted into vicious conflict that reduced entire regions to little more than ash. With nowhere else to go, the survivors made their new homes on the backs of the Earthmovers themselves, finding them the only safe haven amidst the destruction they wrought.

The downfall of the Earthmovers was twofold. The final era of the Dominance wars depended solely upon them, as nothing else save the Eleven could hope to stand up to their overwhelming firepower. However, as their leyline taps drew magic from directly within the leylines, the sheer number of Earthmovers in operation drained the surrounding leylines dry. In the end, what magic remained was not enough to sustain them, and the Earthmovers died out one by one.

Seeing this, every flight that had since withdrawn from the Dominance wars seized their chance and imposed the first true peace in Sornieth's history, negotiating a final truce to end two millennia of conflict.

Though the wars had drawn to a close, Sornieth is still littered with reminders. Even after centuries of recovery, the leylines of Central Sornieth are fragile and prone to wild surges. Dotting the land, too, are the enormous carcasses of the Earthmovers left where they fell. Some still host cities upon their backs, an attempt by dragons to transform their destructive legacy into something new.
