Marcone is a dragon who knows what she wants and is going to get it.

In the alternate timeline in which the Clan was not slaughtered and Cory raised Anastasia with Liberty at his side, it was the unspoken truth that "Lady Jeannie" Marcone was the next in line after Caroline abdicated as Clan Matriarch. While typically Henrietta would have been next in line, and her offspring after her, Henrietta had no desire to inherit the role of responsibility, and Hermia had moved to the Tempest Spire with Anders and their children as the leader of her own sect of the Clan. Marcone, on the other hand, strongly desired the leadership role.

She was adopted by Caroline into the Clan as her surrogate daughter after finding the hatchling in Wind, assaulted by a flight of Talonok warriors. Caroline swooped in like a vengeful angel, sending the Talonok scrambling with blazing bolts of fire. Marcone was distrustful of Caroline at first, but Caroline saw in her great potential, and a mind like a steel trap. Over the next few days she managed to coax Marcone into trusting her, enough to take her back to the Clan. Caroline began to care for Marcone like she was her own, and soon enough they had as strong a bond as Cory and Anastasia would have had in another life.

Marcone works diligently within the Clan, and clawed her way to respect, one dragon at a time. When the time comes for Caroline to step down and Marcone to take her place as the Clan Matriarch, all dragons but one will fully support her.
