Polus

Polus has been drawn to wildlife since she lived with her birth clan. She bonded with many woodland creatures and they became her close companions, never straying too far from her. One terrible night, a wildfire began in the forest and spread very quickly, causing her and her clanmates to wake up and look out of their burrows to see fire ravaging their home. Young Polus was evacuated, but their heart couldn't bear to leave their animal friends behind. She wanted to run back into the blaze to save them herself, but instead, her mother ran into the flames, knowing how important the animals' lives were to Polus.

While Polus's father was holding them back from charging into the wildfire with their mother, she re-emerged, singed and carrying the animals on her back. The creatures were safe, but her mother was in poor health from the inhaling of smoke. She did not survive the tragedy, but she gave Polus a great gift: selflessness. As an adult, Polus now commits herself to protecting life around her, honoring her mother who sacrificed herself for the sake of others.
