Hani is, essentially, a walking lie detector. So long as he maintains his composure, they can see through virtually any ploy someone tries to pull.
He can easily shrug off visual illusions, but auditory and tactile illusions may disturb him, loosening their grip on reality enough for something to slip through.

Growing up, Hani had always wanted to be a doctor, and the closer they got to being able to make that dream a reality, the stronger his resolve became. Determined to enter the field of medical care and help people, Hani began making plans to apply to universities.
Only for the Galactic Security Association to put a damper on their plans, breathing down his neck for no apparent reason. So, still determined to become a doctor, he decided to do it the illegal way.
Hani changes identities every once in a while, with watertight paperwork to match. They travel from planet-to-planet via various extralegal means to con his way into various clinics and hospitals, or working at less reputable but still perfectly serviceable... underground establishments.
Despite not being licensed, Hani knows their stuff, and is a good, reliable physician and surgeon. He also has an excellent memory, which helps tremendously with treating a wide variety of species.

✧ FRIENDS IN SEEDY PLACES
Hani is well-respected in the interplanetary underground, due to good, reliable medical care being hard to come by when you're a wanted criminal. Hani's shadier patients get a doctor that won't rat them out to the law, and Hani gets a network of connections - a safety net to bail him out if the GSA ever gets too close for comfort.
These connections are also how Hani is able to get their hands on such good paperwork - it's a lot easier to fake your death and craft an entirely new identity when you're working with people who really know their way around forged documents.

While Hani's ability does help them stay grounded in reality and keep a level head, it somewhat paradoxically relies on him remaining calm and collected. Hani's worst enemy is sensory overload - being disoriented or panicked significantly loosens their grip on reality, leaving him more vulnerable to deception or suggestion.
It's similar to the first law of motion, inertia - an object at rest stays at rest, an object in motion stays in motion. Calm, cool, and collected, it's difficult for anything to shake Hani, but once he is off-kilter, it's that much easier for them to begin spiraling, the effect compounding with additional stimuli.
