Garnet was the last member to be recruited in the Gemstone Guardians. He hatched near the Astrolodome and from the moment he emerged from the shell, he became enamored with the stars. He used to spend hours lying in an open field, simply watching the night sky until he'd drift off to sleep and wake sometime in the afternoon. The second he was old enough, Garnet began training to be an astronomer, apprenticing underneath other dragons in the Astrolodome.

Garnet would often travel with other astronomers to study the stars in different locations. Once, while flying over the Sea of a Thousand Currants, Sapphire spotted Garnet and questioned him for being in the clan's territory. However, it was when Garnet spotted Anemone that it was over for him. From that moment on, he was smitten.
