Librarian | Elder | Snarky | Well-Read

Reading books has ruined her eyes. So has being underground for the entirety of her life, but that's a personal choice. Liadaen is a typical bookworm, she loves everything from the look, feel and smell of bound literature to the vellum and hides of ancient scrolls. She won't admit it, but sometimes she never leaves the library, opting to just take naps among the towers of books she takes care of.

She grew up in the inner cavern cities of Dragonhome, rarely going outside, until her home suffered a massive earthquake and crumbled in on itself. She decided to take a journey to the land of knowledge and truth. After perusing the flights many book markets and massive libraries, she came to rest in the Runelight Hallow, only to never leave.

Liadaen spends all her time in the clans underground library, one of the clans three original scholars. She is very close friends with Aileta, whom flits around her shoulders like a little star. Liadaen also treats Coeus like a son, and often helps him in his research. But it is Solaran who is truly the mystery for the rest of the clan. Liadaen is a gentle soul, although is loathed to show it to outsiders. Solaran was that outsider, not at all one who looked bookish. Where Liadaen and her scholars were not all that remarkable in looks, and were not charismatic or charming, Solaran was a beautiful ray of sunshine. But when he wandered into the library, and refused to leave, Liadaen accidentally found a new mate, with whom she loved to hate. Liadaen would only admit to his useful reflective scales, acting as a light to read by.

Liadaen loved the quiet she found in the Runelight Hallow, being able to burrow away from the light and ruin her eyes more with her growing collection of books. Though she only use to allow her close friends and fellow esteemed scholars borrow her books, she garnered the attentions of others in the rapidly growing clan. Her library and her books were taking a beating from the new wave of curious dragons seeking booksmarts. She soon found a growing distaste with the clan and announced her intentions of leaving.

Her mate begged her to stay, but she was far to fed up with the clan and its new activities. They were even tearing appart the caverns to make room for new dragons! Her ire for the hustle of the growing city took her away to the Ashfall Wastes, were she knew a few scholars in need of some help. Her stay there was invigorating, but soon she missed her library in the Hallow, and found that more often than not she miss it.

Not long after she was gone did her friends from the Hallow come calling her back, begging for her help since the more roudier of enchanted books were causing them trouble that only she knew how to fix. Liadaen conceded, but upon asking her mate if he was ready to return, she was left crest-fallen. He had found the dragon from his prophecy. She left him in anger, hating herself for ever trusting him.

When she came home, she found that her library had been torn apart. All her books were in a shamble of piles, disorganized and covered in dirt. It seemed that the Runlight Hallow was undergoing major renovations, and they needed the room for the new structures to be built, deep underground.

In deep dismay, Liadaen confronted the leader and his mate. HeartRune seemed apologetic, but Elowen, the real mastermind behind the renovations, seemed to care less. There grew a conflict between the two, which for a short time split the loyalties of some of the scholarly dragons between Liadaen and Elowen. She hadn't realized how much clout she held over the clan, or that anybody really even recognized her as anything but the shut-in librarian.

HeartRune sought to make peace. The moment Elowen encountered any problem with the project, he would suggest going to ask Liadaen of her opinion. Elowen refused for a while, solving the problems her way. Until she needed a book.

Liadaen saw that it wounded Elowen's pride as a leader to have to rely upon her. Seeing Elowen so upset, so down softened her towards the coatl, and finally all was solved. They found they had much more in common, and together created a strong foundation for the renovations. The only resequite Liadaen had asked of her clan leaders were that her library was restored. Elowen was horrified that the librarian had thought she would not restore their library. "I think half our clan members would revolt if I had done that!"

Her new library was quite the show, with vaulted ceilings and pillars of roots that wrapped the library in a warmth and glowing flora to set up the lighting. The new shelves for her books were delicately carved with lore and tales from her many books, and soon, those shelves were filled to the brim. Her library was beautiful, a wonder. And she got to continue keeping them, with her new den located right inside of it. The room was modest, and she was told to modify it to her hearts content. All she could do was bring her favorite books in to hoard. She noticed that near her own den, were openings into a system of caves. The cool air from the caverns kept the library at a favorable temperature, without getting too stuffy. They had covered it with a thick curtain of vines and ivy, to keep dragons who did not know their way around the underground from wandering too far.

She often finds young dragon back there, ka-noodling. She has also gained a reputation with the hatchlings, and many know to try staying on her good side. With the vast amount of books she's collected, some even offer their help. Two such dragons have a worse fate than to be subject to her ire. She knew it from the start, when the young Nocturne showed up on her doorstep, and went on and on about her imperial friend. Liadaen grew to enjoy their frivolous drama, with the cherubic mage whom had taken an apprenticeship with the local master. Melody was a hard worker, sorting books and helping tutor dragons that seemed lost in their studies. She was knowledgable and bright, but her affections misplaced in the temple imperial. Elysia was just as bright, and had a prolific knowledge of the lore and rituals in all Sornieth. Liadaen kept her around to help dragons who sought such knowledge. Dyn, the dragon of Elysia's affections, was a different story entirely...

Finding that her circle of friends had grown, she felt her pride as a Hallow resident grow. She was an established member, and soon she gained her Runestone Rites, and proudly displayed her Rune where ever she went.

Then a certain living fossil came along. She didn't know how or when he had arrived, but she was terrified to see that the monstrous dragon was destroying her most precious of tomes. Stopping the intruder was easy enough, and she knew she needed to report him immediately, Liadaen roze when she heard him speak the words on the ancient tome of shadows that she had taken from his claws. It was a lost language, and she had been troubled by it for ages. But he spoke it with a strange accent that matched his strange appearance, and she was completely enthralled.

It was a hard decision, but her curiosity and thirst for knowledge won her over. Throwing caution to the winds, Liadaen had to know more. So she harbored the intruder, knowing that if she slipped up or anybody found out about her visitor, she could be in deep trouble. Not to mention that half the books she was having him read to her were outlawed in the clan. But in the shadows of her den, his blackened tongue wove words so sweet and dark that she couldn't bare to let him leave.

And so she smuggles books to him, writing down all she can while she has the time, giving him all he wants or desires. For the most part, he seems happy with her company. She can't figure out why such he would, with the way he speaks of world domination and utters venom about the deities. But something about her seems to intrigue him. She thinks her smarts probably wins him over. But perhaps something more is there... waiting in the twists of shadows that flow from his wings and the hints of darkness in his eyes.
