Biography
They didn't stay long, and quickly scrambled onto the rim of the cauldron. But it was too late, and the effects of the primordial sludge took hold of them.
ShinRa realized as days passed that their jaws had become deformed and toothy, and they were oddly more hungry than anything they had felt before.
Stranger still, ShinRa realized that as time passed, they were not getting any bigger. It seems that the quick dip into the Wyrmwound was enough to stunt their growth completely.
As a duo stuck in a hatchling body, Shin and Ra are much more sly than one would expect. They survived the wasteland by stealing and sneaking their way around the larger dragons. Often hanging around the Hellwell Undercroft, pickpocketing as dragons come and go from the gathering spot.
One fateful day, ShinRa had noticed a dragon in gaudy hunting apparel trading pelts for treasure in the Undercroft. An opportunity to make a quick buck, they thought to themselves.
As they approached the hunter, taking care to not make a sound, they soon realized they were outmatched.
The brown coatl looked down directly at them, her yellow eyes piercing into them before they could even make a move for her pouch full of treasure.
"Shame you thought I'd be easy prey, little ones" the coatl hissed softly. ShinRa began to back away, their cover was blown. They should have known a hunter skilled enough to catch so many beasts wouldn't miss them, but their inexperience led them astray.
As they turned to run, a skydancer adorned with amber jewelry scooped them up in his claws.
"An odd one, aren't you?" he said to the young aberration, scanning them over while turning them in his talons. ShinRa hissed and snarled, but the skydancer wasn't phased. "You fell into the Wyrmwound, didn't you?" he asked. ShinRa stopped gnashing their teeth, and slowly began to break down. The skydancer looked puzzled as the small aberration in his talons started to cry. The brown coatl next to him felt a little bad for the tiny creature.
"You fell into the Wyrmwound, and lived?" the coatl asked, a hint of worry now in her voice.
"We didn't fall" Shin began, "we were dropped in by another dragon that wanted to eat us..." Ra finished.
"Well it just so happens my partner and I are researching contamination from the Wyrmwound" the skydancer stated. "If you wouldn't mind partaking in our tests, I'm sure we could arrange food and bed for you in our clan." The coatl directed her piercing stare to the skydancer beside her. "You can't be serious" she said.
"Very" he replied. "Of course, we won't do anything to cause you pain. Believe it or not, our belief in the Plaguebringer doesn't make us savages. As many in the outside realms would think."
ShinRa sat in the claws of the skydancer and thought to themselves for a moment. In all the time they had spent in the wasteland thus far, not once had they been able to fill their belly or get a full nights rest.
A promise of food and shelter was more than enough to convince them to go along with the skydancer. Shin and Ra nodded in unison, causing the skydancer to crack a smile. He set the aberration on his back, and began making his way back home in the quarantine zone.
Daily life for Shin and Ra in the clan is mostly what they expected. The skydancer that had picked them up originally, Fox, and his partner Sparrow spent many of their days researching ShinRa. The blood draws were uncomfortable, but nothing they couldn't handle. Variant, the clan's head doctor, also paid them frequent visits. Ensuring that their health wasn't deteriorating while the enigmatic duo of scientists continued their research.
ShinRa became friends with another dragon in the research lab, Synth. Her tales of the Shifting Expanse and the many other lands she travelled always help them to feel at ease.
Since joining Charis Clan, not one day has gone by that Shin and Ra felt hungry, they had finally found a safe place to call home. And maybe one day, Fox and Sparrow will find away to undo the damage done to them by the Wyrmwound.
