Biography

Uh-oh, looks like this magic-user wandered a little too far from her home lair (KingVulture, 437722), and now she's off to see the world! If you ever feel the need to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to the home lair, to the “Dragons Off To See The World” thread, here, or to the hub if you don't want another dragon in return. Please refrain from exalting her!

Important note: Please only trade this dragon on travelling dragon threads, as opposed to places such as the Auction House.

Malorn would like to receive a permanent home someday, so if you'd like to adopt her after she's been travelling long enough, just let her owner know!

Malorn is quite interested in learning magic - she's learned a little from Sanya, but Malorn figures it would make sense to learn from some other dragons as well.

"You're learning magic?" said a bright-eyed Spiral from across the tavern Malorn had been resting in.

Malorn had struck up a conversation with the Spiral, named Slitri Iskald, and the two had huddled over the table chattering for quite some time. With a sly little smile, Slitri had revealed that her ship was powered almost entirely by magic, and Malorn had been intrigued. Her own teacher, Sanya, was an alchemist and witch, and powering ships had not been covered in any of Malorn's lessons.

"If you brew me six batches of potions," Slitri had eventually said as the night drew to a close, "I will take you with me to meet the shipwright that infused my ship with magic."

Given that Malorn had set out to learn magic in the first place, it didn't seem to be the worst of deals, and though Slitri warned her the shipwrights may not wish to share, the Spiral assured her there was undoubtedly someone willing to teach where they were going. And when they set sail the next morn, Malorn was fascinated by the glowing runes carved into the wood, how they pulsed and thrummed with power that sent the magnificent ship hurtling through the waves.

Three days and as many nights later, they arrived in Valhall, and Slitri introduced Malorn to the dragons responsible for her ship.

The shipwright, Hvalkváma, walked away before Malorn could ask anything at all, but the mage that'd done the majority of the runework was happy to discuss her work. Malorn got to spend several days learning the basics of runic magic. Poesi informed her, in no uncertain terms, that it was a topic as wide and vast as the Icefields' coastline, but grasping the fundamentals wasn't impossible for a dedicated magic user.

Malorn wasn't sure she'd want to dedicate much time to runes in the future, but it was fascinating to have gotten a peek into that world, and she walked away with a few basic sigils courtesy of Poesi's eagerness to share her craft. A sigil for protection, a sigil for storing magic energy, and a sigil to strengthen.

When Slitri was set to leave Valhall again, Malorn hopped onto the ship with the agreement to be dropped off at the next port. She knew not which port that was, nor did she care to find out, and that was undeniably a part of the appeal. Who knew what tomorrow might hold?

"Three days," Slitri informed her as they watched the Icefields disappear on the horizon. "Then we'll reach port. May the gods keep you safe, friend, and know it has been a joy to know you."
