Roku

Other dragons look at Roku curiously as she is moving into the clan. She comes, carrying little of value, save from a big jute sack filled to the brim with books. Smiling, she waves at her neighbors, before struggling to pick up the sack and carry it into her new lair. One of her neighbors goes out of his way to help her and together the two of them carry the big sack of books inside.

The following weeks, the clan gets used to Roku. She’s a fun and extraverted dragon, and easily makes friends out of those who are curious about her. She’s found in the library a lot, reading old tomes without titles. She’s in the tavern during the night, drinking and eating with her friends, or making other friends. And everybody kind of gets used to her, forgets the initial weirdness about her, and moves on. Everybody except the neighbor that helped her carry that jute sack, that is.

Because ever after he helped her that one time, this neighbor goes out of his way to ignore and avoid Roku. He knows he cannot tell anybody why. Nobody will ever believe him. But when he and Roku sat down that sack of books in Roku’s lair, one of the books fell out. It had a bright green eye, looking at him, actively watching him. And Roku just picked the book back up and shoved it back into the sack. Only for another book to come crawling out on tiny little insect legs. As that book scuttled away and Roku chased after it, the neighbor looked into the sack, in a mix of curiosity and fear, and saw a mix of magical books of all kinds. He was mesmerized, and didn't notice one book creeping closer to him. He was lucky that Roku pulled him away before the book bit down on him.

“Be careful now.”, she told him, smiling. “You don’t want to get cursed, right?”
