Biography
Snapshot: Soft spoken but firm of temper, Filionel is someone who rarely considers himself truly ‘off-duty.” Most of his actions are geared towards easing tension, soothing others, and fostering bonds between his fellow clan members. He believes very firmly in both gentler power and the expediency of direct and firm action for the sake of a cause, and that each has its place. The clan’s unity and collective strength is his life’s purpose. In battle he keeps winds favorable for his force’s wings, bolstering their spirits and coordinating them expertly. In private, he enjoys singing and spending time with the hatchlings, and occasionally indulges in a love of poetry. Background: Born to a family of mages in the Wind flight, Filionel grew into a relatively carefree young scout. His first true foray into the Wasteland, however, ended disastrously. His birth clan suffered a calamitous defeat and he was abandoned after the battle due to a wing injury; surviving only thanks to his discovery by the clan that would someday become the Frostfound. He was the first such stray ever taken on by the clan, and found himself anxious to earn his keep. Casting aside much of his once favored elegance and softness, he grew quiet and stern, took to wearing armor and cloaking himself in arcane gravitas so he would feel less out of place amongst the rougher plague dragons. It wasn’t long before he assumed the self imposed duty of easing the many fractious voices in the clan, striving to keep the families together and to bring in any who might strengthen the whole. He served in this informal role as a coordinator and mediator of conflicts for many years, taking a mate for a time amongst the clan’s small guardian population, one who later went on to serve the Plaguebringer personally along with most of their children. When the oracle Brin arrived, Filonel was the first of the clan to openly admit any friendship or faith in the earnest Snapper. He helped motivate the group as a whole, building the support and fostering the hope necessary to take the clan south to the Icefields and the clan’s new allegiance. Daily Life: Elected as one of the first three council seats for the clan’s ruling body, the Council of the Wise, Filionel spends his days talking with the other two and keeping abreast of the clan’s goings on. Most internal conflicts fall to him to resolve, and he manages the majority of the clan’s day to day affairs. Outside of his duties, he spends a great deal of time playing with the hatchlings, singing for them, or to himself in his den, and advancing the clan’s various projects. Relationships: Filionel is on at least friendly terms with almost everyone, but has a deep bond with his son Tigger, and a blossoming friendship with Brin. He hasn’t quite gotten the measure of Devise yet, and has tried to avoid becoming enamored of Gentle despite finding the imperial fetching and appealing in all his (hah) gentleness. While he's made nests with several dragons since taking his first mate, he hasn't let himself grow attached to anyone in the long term. Goals: His personal goals are the clan’s unity, and continuing strength. He wants them powerful enough to ensure easier survival for future generations, and ideally wants them to grow enough to move further out onto the Icefields. |
