❀ Species Profile & Conservation Status ❀

Least Concern This large starling is native to parts of Africa, found in and around humid forest at low and middle elevations. In poor light, the bird looks black, but good light reveals purple, green, blue, and copper iridescence, and black spots on the shoulders. Usually in small flocks, they vocalize with a wide variety of scolding, rasping, squealing, and liquid notes. This species has an extremely large range, and population is not believed to be decreasing sufficiently rapidly to be considered at risk.

Fun Fact: Splendid Glossy-Starlings are found from sea level up to 6570 feet above sea level.
