The gaolers shifted on their feet, staring at the coatl as he peered through the door to the cell. Gerda herself sat by his side, like an overgrown terrifying bodyguard. It was clear to the others, however, that the coatl himself was in control, at least for now. He was leaning against his staff, seeming to be the image of calm itself if it weren't for those eyes of his. It was such an intense stare, one they knew very well. Some of them had attended his classes, if only for a short while, and they'd swiftly learned it was best to just be forthright with the little drake. It was one simple thing, in the end, that made them insist on staying close to the coatl.
A huff broke the silence in the cell, reminding them that the coatl wasn't talking to empty air. With the turning of the year, as the nocturnes receded once more to their hidden homes, the shadows felt longer, almost sinister. Perhaps that was it, or maybe it was the imperial staring the coatl down. WiP is a WiP
