Biography

Personality: bookish, intelligent, adventurous, curious, confident, calm.

Favourite Types of Game: RPGs and other lore and story heavy titles (Be warned, he is a rules lawyer and will pull out the manual if given even the slightest prompting. Amethyst swears up and down that this is a new behaviour.)

Hates: ignorance, people eating or drinking in his library, being viewed as automatically stuffy and boring because he likes books, and unclear rules.

Backstory: A true Bibliophile, Biblion has been building his hoard of books since he was a hatchling. However, unlike many other book-obsessed dragons, his curiosity was not sated through reading alone and he was not content to remain in his den of ink and paper. He wanted to see the world. Using his birth clan as a base of operations (really just a place to store his books and return to when he tired), he set off on long journeys across the world in search of new knowledge and new adventures.

That is how he encountered Amethyst.

The two found themselves in the same bookshop. Biblion was looking for any volume that he had yet to read while Amethyst was in search of a copy of an out of print pen and paper rpg. Biblion saw her pulling her prize from the shelf and was intrigued by the cover, approaching her to ask about it. That’s when she introduced him to the world of games and invited him to join the group she was playing with at that time (not yet the one that would become the Oddball Clan) to try it out. He was hooked immediately.

The two became fast friends and, soon after, travelling buddies. They would roam across the continent, joining new gaming tables and collecting new books as they went. Eventually, she trusted him with her story. He enjoyed her company, but was also intrigued by the idea of a Guardian seemingly unaffected by the search, and one far more attached to the land than usual. However, despite the fact that she was even more of a nomad than he was, lacking even a birth clan to return to, he eventually grew frustrated with her refusal to leave the continent. That annoyance combined with Amethyst learning of his curiosity about her condition and believing that he say her as just another curiosity lead to a falling out between the two.

The two parted on shaky terms as Biblion, desperate to explore and accomplish more, rashly joined up with a pirate crew on a ship called the Silver Talon. For years, he searched as the ship’s navigator and record keeper while furthering his own research. He also trained in combat, dirty pirate tactics and all, under Captain Andromeda. He does not speak of this period of his life often, but when he does, it is often drunken stories of grand exploits, battles, and heists that suggests that he was far more involved in the actual piracy of the ship than he lets on.

His departure from the Silver Talon coincided with his reunion with Amethyst. The ship had docked and Biblion was exploring the port town and looking for books to buy when he saw her across the street. By this time, she was living with Orinth and her adopted son Finch and had met the gaming club that would one day become the Oddballs. The two locked eyes across the street and she started walking towards him, hatchling and presumed mate close behind. At first, he’s ashamed to say, he though she had turned to a life of crime more extreme than his own and had kidnapped the hatchling, questioning where she would have even gotten an Auraboa hatchling. When she explained the truth however, how she and the Obelisk dragon with her found the child and decided to raise him, he came to two realizations.

One, she had achieved so much more than he had, despite her settling down while he adventured. Two, he missed her terribly.

His best friend had forged a life without him while he was off playing pirate and chasing impossible dreams of seeing and knowing everything. A life without him in it. A part of him had hoped she would join him, but seeing her now, he wanted more than anything to be there for her.

Resolving to change for the better, he left the Silver Talon, joined the gaming group, and started reading books on how to care for adopted hatchlings. Amethyst, in turn, welcomed him home with open wings.

Though he and Finch got off on the wrong foot after he suggested he be returned to the other Auraboa now that Amethyst and Orinth knew what breed of dragon he was, but he cried the first time the hatchling labelled him as “uncle” in a scribbled portrait.

When Bloodscale first arrived, he was one of the first on the scene and became one of the family’s greatest supporters in their efforts to heal the traumatized hatchling. When the gaming group decided to all move in together and become a clan, he was quick to start making trips to bring over all of his books and take over the old manor’s library.

Other Facts:
  • He is particularly attached to Bloodscale not only because they are of a similar temperament and have similar interests, but because he feels guilty for missing Finch’s arrival and for making a bad first impression on him and became determined to be a better uncle.
  • He claims to have only been a navigator and researcher on the Silver Talon, but he is so good at combat and thievery that most have trouble believing that.
  • He’s run into his pirate friends several times since he joined up with Amethys and they poked fun at him for how much he changed and his willingness to allow a tiny hatchling to sleep in his fur as he was not fond of physical affection when they knew him.
  • He was in love with Amethyst for a time when they travelled together, but became her biggest supporters in her efforts to court Orinth when they reunited (frankly he was shocked to learn that they took so long to become officially mated, but that’s neither here nor there).
