Biography

Unhatched Lightning Egg Unhatched Lightning Egg Unhatched Lightning Egg Unhatched Lightning Egg Unhatched Lightning Egg Unhatched Lightning Egg Unhatched Lightning Egg

Valceiron was hatched in a storm.

Tens of crackling blue eggs were nestled in the vast nursery where he hatched. A small overhanging cliff sheltered a few of the nests from the heavily pouring rain. Each time lightning struck the dark mountains in the distance, the eggs surged with energy. One pair of eggs' hatching date just happened to be around this time-- crack! That's no thunder the brooding dragons heard; that is the sound of eggs hatching!

Two coatls-- the parents of this nest-- looked alert as they watched the nest. Their older dragonets from earlier clutches huddled closer to the two glowing eggs, each translucent shell holding smaller dragonets who shared their siblings' spotted wings and striped tails. The crackling of these shells sounded much like the storm-- though certainly quieter.

A great crack of thunder startled the dragonets! Those who have spent most or all of their life in the charged lands are not so easily startled by thunder, but the sudden, loud kind makes nearly any dragon jump.

As if the hatchlings didn't want to miss the storm, their eggs' shells cracked faster. The purple-winged one peeped its head out of the shell, and soon the grey-winged one did the same. Their older brothers and sisters chirped in delight.

As if the rain was colder than they'd expected, it had been a few minutes before the purple-winged one crawled out of his eggshell. The grey-winged hatchling had not yet left his egg.

All of a sudden, a massive gust of wind blew. The trees swayed and sand was kicked up by the wind. The parents of nearby nests coiled around their eggs to keep them safe.

But one egg-- quite literally a Wind egg-- was not so fazed. It bounced around, as wind eggs do, pulled by the breeze.. towards... a cliff!

The grey-winged coatl heard a bump. His eyes opened. The first thing he saw when he opened his teal eyes was tens of eggs that looked just like the shell behind him that he came from-- and one egg, a shade of green he had technically never seen, zooming through the wind!

His claws hit the sand. He chased the floating object, the last bits of his eggshell flying off his feathers, battered from the rain and wind. He and the egg soon came upon a drop-off that sloped tens of meters towards a rushing river. He leaped up to the egg that was as big as he was and fell back-first into a pile of leaves, still holding the egg.

With one claw and one wing wrapped around the huge, round egg, he gazed at the slope, and the vast, rolling hills below the dark sky, with thunderclouds moving endlessly. His heart was beating faster than the wind after his quick, impulsive chase of the light, floating egg. He stood only clawsteps away from the edge of the slope.

He pushed the egg away from the slope with his head, slowly and effortfully rolling it back to the hatchery of nests. Dragons that looked undeniably familiar looked at him with admiration in their bright, sky-blue eyes. He looked at his spotted wings and striped tail; he looked just like them. A few of them walked towards him; he saw now that they were twice his size, except for one who was the same size as him. His look-alike companions helped roll the egg to a nest where two other eggs just like it were nestled safely in a patch of grass.

The two stewards of the nest-- feathered dragons with white eyes-- were immensely grateful. Other dragons that surrounded the nest-- the green-eyed older siblings of the eggs-- shared the same sentiment.

The little grey-winged dragon saw more dragons like him coming towards the nest. The dragons he saw around him were even more than twice his size; they were seven or eight times his size! These were his parents and grown siblings, but to him they seemed the size of mountains. The rain pattered lightly. He quickly snuggled by their side, relishing in the warmth of their thicker feathers.

One of the mint-eyed feather dragons lowered her neck slightly to look at him. Her feathers were a vivid red, as bright as a flower. She sat down and curled her tail around her. In her talons she held a small lei of bright purple flowers.

"My name is Caron," she said softly. The little dragon gazed up at her in awe. "These violets come from my home. I strung this necklace myself. Each flower has five petals."

She softly placed a claw on each petal as she spoke. "One petal is for bravery, one for thoughtfulness, one for peace, one for joy, and one for protection. You left your egg to rescue another. You have shown all five petals."

She held the strung necklace closer to the hatchling, who adored the vivid purple blooms.

"For saving my sister..." she declared in a hushed voice overflowing with pride, "the flower necklace is yours." She placed the violet lei over the hatchling's head.

The feather-dragons cheered as the dragons of the hatchery erupted with joy. A violet-colored coatl, his mother, stepped forth.

"There is one more thing you shall be given," she said. "A name."

The hatchling held his head high.

"You have honored your knightly family in a valiant way. From this day on, you shall be known as Valceiron."

Valceiron was so joyous at the giving of his name that he jumped into the air, flapping his butterfly-patterned wings up and down. His brother did the same.

As the excitement calmed, he pawed at the green egg he had saved earlier. He tilted his head as he looked up at the egg's mother, a pale golden feather-dragon with sparkling feathers.

"They will be returning to the Zephyr lands in three moons from now to hatch," she told him. "Our clanmates live in the faraway Meadowplume kingdom, and though we have enjoyed our visit to the lands of lightning, these hatchlings will be born in their home."

Valce jumped up and down again. His own mother looked at him and asked, "Would you like to visit them?"

Valce nodded enthusiastically.

"Well then," she chirped, "in three moons from now, we shall visit the Meadowplume kingdom!"

Valceiron's eyes lit up with joy as he imagined the lands from whence Caron and the egg came. Though he had never seen the green, windblown lands of karsts and waterfalls, he knew in his heart that he now had two homes. Surrounded by his family and new friends, he was truly in one of those homes.

Beyond the dark mountains and hills where the flame-colored sun was setting in an astounding display of colorful clouds, far in that direction, the wind swirled in the zephyrous home he would come to someday.
