KEEPER OF THE TAROT READINGS.

The Temple of the Sun echoed with the wretched sobs of a grieving father, while a young priestess held him close. She was an intruder to her grief, but she thought she would soon be a guide out.

Aerdrie was a believer of the goddesses before she was chosen as a priestess, and named after one who'd been near and dear to her great-grandfather's heart. Aerdrie, the primordial goddess of freedom and impulse, of the untamed winds and open skies. She was born in their warmth, a descendant of a line once thought impossible. She had fate.

Before them were the broken shards of trampled egg shells, an unfortunate accident on usually safe roads. His spouse was recovering. Their child could not, at least, not until the ritual was completed.

It was a difficult spell in the most trying circumstances, and had taken a favor called in to one of the most powerful mages in the city, the Blackstaff's mate, no less. It was fine because she was family, and the proper components could be sourced in time. She had always believed in her family. Her sister had been her inspiration from a very young age, back while they still had the shell beaks. Her sister had gone on to become one of the most respected priestesses in the city, and Aerdrie couldn't be any prouder.

So she held the young father and let him cry, content to watch as divine light faded from the atrium and her great grandfather's hands grew still. She thought she was in the presence of a miracle, perhaps not the latest in their story but certainly an important one all the same. Yet as the spell drew to a close, and Torrin got to his feet, silence lingered. The child didn't cry.

Their soul hadn't return.

Later, there would be explanations and regrets. The soul's tether had been flimsy, or the soul itself unwilling, but the explanation the others in the temple came back, the ones they used again and again were the fates willed it so.

For a long time, she would remember those wretched sobs and the first moments of lost hope. She would look back on them, with bitterness first, than calm understanding. This would be a turning point.

She was Aerdrie. She stood for freedom. Not even fate would bind her.

The Major Arcana card in Bright's reading would have been the Sun, because it is a card of radiance, success and a generous, overflowing spirit (and because there's only so much someone can do to resist a sun/moon dichotomy. it's a #look, absolutely). however, the Sun is also defined by an honest, childlike joy that makes it less of a fit in this case. If it appeared, Bright would be the Sun Reversed in his reading! Struggling to see the bright side of life, this reversal calls to one's inner child, asking to let down some of the burdens and responsibilities and dance under the sky.

The Star, on the other hand, is a card of hope, renewal and spirituality. In the Major Arcana, it comes after the Tower, the time for respit and growth after a disaster. It's a card that is relevant to Bryn in many moments; particularly those after the razing of his village, his time in the Underdark and after the city's crash, but where personal growth can happen, in a new period of peace, understanding and faith. This card asks the one who receives it to allow themselves to dream, because the heavens are ready to deliver its blessings.

It's also a card about generosity - the Star doesn't hoard its blessings in spirit or in wealth, but shares them! It has much wealth with which to help others transform their lives.

The Ten of Wands is the card for someone who takes on responsibilities, or carries the heaviest burdens themselves. This card comes in moments where hard work is necessary, although it won't have to (or isn't able to) be kept up for much longer. It can also have has the same place in this reading that the Sun Reversed would have - as somewhat of a warning about overwork! It can signal that delegation, prioritization of the most important tasks, or another method to help with taking on the burden are needed. Also on the bright side, the Ten of Wands is at the end of the cycle, meaning this situation is only temporary, and the end of the tremendous effort is in sight! Waterdeep will be rebuilt - it's citizens will see peace.

The King of Cups is the highest card in the suit of the Cups, that deals with emotion, the subconscious and the creative mind. All of the other cards in the deck have their attention focused on the cups, but not the King - he instead stares outward, having his own emotions well in control without neglecting them. Balancing the rational with the emotional, the King of Cups is a compassionate leader, fatherly, wise and patient; but he is also keen-eyed, and is unlikely to be taken in for someone's tugging on their heartstrings.

A deck of tarot is a personal journey; from the Fool's innocence to the World's transcendence, it follows someone as they go through the alchemical process of purifying the soul. He's drawn high cards - the Ten of Wands and the King of Cups are both at the ends of their personal journeys, and the Star itself is a card of growth. All in all, Bright's reading is for one who has gone through tremendous pain and suffering, but come out the other side of the crucible as a better person. He's likely very close to drawing the World card, signaling an elevation to a higher self!

And now for Torrin's triad! The first and central card is the Moon. It is a tremendously apropos card for Torrin! This card signals illusions, the subconscious mind, things that are not as they seem. One with a Moon reading shouldn't act rashly, or end up realizing later that they didn't have all of the information needed to make the best choice. Acting while under the Moon means relying on intuition and insight, letting the shaded parts of the mind guide onto safer land. Essential for a Masked Lord.

The Three of Cups shows three figures dancing together, toasting with their cups, surrounded by abundant flowers and fruits. This is the card of Eilistraee! As the goddess tempts Drow away from their harsh, backstabbing lives to dance under the moonlit skies, the Three of Cups is a card that celebrates collaboration, friendship and creativity. Maybe his inner circle might be limited to family - as they say, three's a crowd - but the Three of Cups and the love of art and joy of life have served Torrin well.

Strength - the card of power! Not the power of tearing claws or rending jaws, but of the subtle, delicate power of persuasion. Strength is the card where the right thing to do might be terrifying, but with courage and compassion, one can tame wild beasts with calm and love. This is a card for someone who would rather be overlooked, knowing that true power will never rest solely in a drawn blade, but just as much in an extended hand and a smile.

Finally, for the third triad - the two of them together!

The obvious first card is the Lovers. This card signals love, yes, but also more specifically, harmony - values aligned, the choice to be together, honesty of intent and open communication. The Lovers know each other truly, understand what each other wants, and know that together they can be more whole than before. Of course, the card is also high-key sexual - there's passion, here, a beautiful, profound connection that goes beyond lust well into the realms of knowing your life partner. More than just the easy draw of 'oh, there's a couple, they draw Lovers!', Torrin and Bryn match up to the Lovers' ideals of choosing what you want to be, and how you will impact the world around you.

The Seven of Wands is the card that symbolizes the struggles the two of them had to go through. Both Torrin and Bryn are protectors - they have things they must defend, people they must shield from the harsh light or convince to allow themselves to be saved from the dark. This card speaks of challenge, competition and perseverance. The person standing at the top of the hill is fending it off from the ones who would harry it, and in the Rider-Waite deck, wears two different shoes, maybe signaling that the challenges came by surprise, and there had to be a rush to be there to defend in time. This card signals to keep fighting for your beliefs!

And finally, Ten of Cups. This is the 'happy family' card; a harmonious, full family stands together, bound in divine love. Again in the Rider-Waite deck, the Cups are spread out in a rainbow that alights fertile, grassy hills and a family home. The Ten of Cups is a card of prosperous, comfortable family homes, at the end of stormy times, having arrived at true emotional fulfillment brought on by love.

Oracle cards pulled: inspiration, new beginnings

Tarot card pulled: king of cups

You are the person to whom everyone looks up to, and there are days where it takes its toll. Your shoulders carry a heavy burden and your heart is just as weighed down with the multitudes of people relying on you to do the right thing and make everything better. While it is an honor, it is also a curse; you feel like you can never truly do something just for yourself, because every action and decision will have an impact on those around you.

The cards want to tell you that if you continue on like this, eventually you will succumb and break. You need to find time for yourself. Stop focusing so much on what happened in the past and what can happen in the future; this is the here and now, and you need to live in it instead of wanting it either to stop altogether or go by too quickly.

Start that new project that has always been in the back of your mind, whether it's art or a novel or gardening. Let yourself heal by embracing that hidden creativity. Let that be the one thing you do for you, and know that it's okay to let yourself be selfish every now and then. This is a chance to reinvent that secret part of yourself that you've kept hidden from everyone else. Don't let change fear you--embrace it, and you will find that perhaps your worries won't weigh down on you as much as they did before.
