Biography

Shonsea and his mate, Marelyn, could be described as prime examples of pure Arcane Aether. Officially, they like to partake in salvage runs back to the Astrolab (despite not having been on the Astrolab when it made impact). They like to recover lost books and scrolls and bring them back to their lair to study, transcribe, and experiment with. They often take Waveshine or, more likely, Pleiades with them given how: "You do realize that the entire Astrolab is now underwater, right?"

While Shonsea and Marelyn might say that their work is only meant for research purposes, you aren't likely going to get a similar answer from the rest of the clan. With the most respect to them, they are very intelligent and know what they're talking about most of the time, and they're more successful than they sound. To those outside, their work looks more like a chaotic obsession due to the lack of control they have. That, and the stories of things going wrong for them tend to be more spectacular and interesting that the times when they go right.

Since their research can yield unpredictable and chaotic results, Rastaban has decided to ensure that the two Aether live separately from the main tunnel chamber the rest of the Draconids currently reside within, despite their pleadings. Rastaban has noted that, "I was greatly torn between the safety of the rest of the clan and the safety of those two themselves. I'm genuinely concerned for both. I mean, how often does transcribing books and scrolls lead to magical explosions?"

In terms of what kind of spells they often like to research, they dive into all of their projects with equal zeal and excitement - which is to say all of them. The two Aether will look into whatever seems interesting, even though they can be picky; there's really no defined groups of what it is that they like, but typically, the more energetic the spell, the more interested they are going to be in it. Furthermore, while the clan typically isn't as interested in their work as themselves, if they find something that could benefit the clan or are asked to do something by a fellow clan member, they will gladly stop what they were working on and help their clanmates.

As for their views on their work, Shonsea and Marelyn might revel in the chaos of a spell going off if nothing bad happens to them or anything else important around them, but understand that "anything else important around them" means that some spell might cause sparks of energy to go all over the place and destroy inexpensive things, make a general mess, or even damage the walls/floor/ceiling of the room itself and they'd be fine with it. They have mixed reactions towards teasing/commenting about the chaos in their work, trying desperately in a "please believe us!" tone that their work is important.

Now, surprisingly, despite what this may tell you, Shonsea and Marelyn do actually have a sense of restraint if they believe that pursuing a project could go catastrophically wrong (hereafter: A Situation). That being said, this danger sense is not always present and it doesn't always work either:

If both of them see good enough chances of success, they'll go through with it, even if there's an equally if not more so chance of A Situation.
If one of them thinks A Situation will happen and does not want it but the other doesn't know/doesn't believe/wants to do it anyway, an argument will ensue and either they will manage to stop them, the other will somehow manage to do it anyway, or the argument will escalate magically or maybe even physically which might cause an entirely new Situation to develop.
If both of them think A Situation will be bad, they will probably put it on the "maybe we'll do this later" pile, which may or may not be a literal pile, which is basically just a place for them to continue looking at and thinking about it until they eventually snap and go through with it.

When it comes to planning and starting new projects, they might do some kind of planning if they think it requires some but they might also just "SHOVE EVERYTHING WE WERE JUST WORKING ON OFF TO THE SIDE AND CHECK THIS OUT, pay absolutely no mind to the fact that shoving everything off might cause a new Situation!" However, if it's one of the aforementioned "this was dangerous, which is why it was in the "we'll do this later" pile" then if they actually do it, they'll definitely include quite a bit of planning.
