Biography
Knowledge | Scribe | Fifth to NameGiver| Mate of Wisdom Is Not For Sale, Don't Offer permanent member of the clan Sometimes Knowledge gets the idea into his head that the only way he’s better than an actual encyclopedia is that he can talk - saves a dragon the trouble of flipping pages. He knows less than an encyclopedia, he always protests, and he’s always shushed by Wisdom or Kindred or Illumination (whoever’s closest at the moment) with the same answer: he’s capable of learning more, growing, and dead flat tree bits with ink on them are not. |
Most of the time, he listens to them and puts the worry out of his mind. But knowing things comes with his job, and he knows that he’s small and frail, weak. He knows that there are plenty of dragons who can write, and really that’s all a scribe is good for. He’s too quiet to voice these concerns, though, and if he ever does feel the urge he’s not good enough with words to get it right. He doesn’t like talking much anyway, but when he’s around opinionated, forceful dragons like Justice he makes sure to shut up even further. The only words that come out of his mouth when he’s nervous are indisputable fact, and not even facts that someone would want to argue against or be uncomfortable with. He’s a source of information and nothing more, he tells himself. Quiet. Wisdom would say Knowledge is a smart kid, that he has a brain and knows how to use it, but sometimes his judgement is a little clouded. Especially when the subject matter is himself. But this is why she’s here - maybe knowing himself simply isn’t Knowledge’s job, and it’s been delegated to Wisdom. She makes sure to watch him and make sure he doesn’t spiral down into another bout of doubt, and she makes sure no one’s picking on him. In return, when he’s happy and relaxed and alone with her, he babbles new information he’s picked up cheerily and rapidly, and she smiles at his enthusiasm. He does love his job, at the end of the day - and it works, this arrangement of theirs. He wouldn’t quite be the same without her, but she wouldn’t have anything to do if he wasn’t around. Wisdom always tries her best to reassure Knowledge of this, and gradually the idea is starting to take root and sink in. She hopes someday she’ll see him categorize “I am enough” as fact, not opinion. Written by cinderrain |
