The Grox are a spacefaring empire that occupy the stars surrounding the galactic core. They are hostile towards other empires - including the player's - by default. Most other NPC empires are hostile or distrustful towards them by default as well. The Grox, despite being so hostile, can be allied, but it's difficult to do so. If the player empire allies with the Grox, all other empires will become hostile towards the player and declare war against your empire. The player will also be rewarded with the Dance With the Devil badge. Alternatively, the Grox can be defeated, which is even more difficult than allying them. The Grox empire is huge and - usually - very, very far from the nearest friendly empire or player-owned star. Defeating the Grox will reward the player with the Badge Outta Heck badge, and the Grox will be absent from the galaxy even if you start on a new planet and advance to the space stage with a new creature. The only way to get the Grox back in the galaxy at that point is to perform a complete galaxy reset by deleting files, but this will also delete your planets/saves. The creatures themselves are small, red, striped, bipedal creatures with mechanical augmentations. They cannot survive in conditions that most other creatures thrive in. When the Grox colonize a planet, they destroy its ecosystem and reduce it to a T0. As seen in the warrior archetype adventure Infestation, the Grox utilize genetically engineered creatures for on-the-ground offensives, as they can only survive on T0 planets. They are implied to be carnivores, due to the mouth part they use being a carnivore part. Many of the parts used for the Grox are not obtainable by the player without the use of mods. The Grox also have a unique archetype that is not attainable by the player, accompanied by a unique background that is used during communication with Grox colonies, and a unique voice type.
