Among the first Nocturnes of Clan Hallows, Alder was found among the turmoil by Maekrix Ceinwen and taken in along with Nile. The two became nest watchers for the other Nocturne eggs, present for the hatching of all other Nocturnes found in the winter turmoil. As the eldest of the Nocturnes (if only by a few days in most cases), Alder alongside Nile became symbols of leadership among the Nocturnes in their new home. They were grateful to Ceinwen and vowed themselves to her, although she insisted it was unnecessary.
Alder instantly became Dalinar's favorite new project and area of study, and the two quickly became close- Dalinar researched the Nocturne, cataloging his features and the habits of the younger nocturnes in the Clan histories, and Alder admired and casually studied his magicks. Together they researched gene-centric magicks that resulted in Alder's fine array of phenotypes. They spent much time together debating over possible genes- Alder picked out Facet himself, much to Dalinar's delight. Nocturnes have since become Dalinar's favorite dragons to apply genes to.
Alder is charming and polite, and spends most of his days with the Hallow Treelings.
