For as long as she can remember Karuma has had dreams. Dreams in which millions of dragons surround her, all talking at once. At first there was only one thing she could make out: the name Naomi, repeated over and over and over again. The dreams terrified her when she was younger, but understanding dawned on her when she heard of her family’s infamous history. The dragons that spoke to her were the millions of tormented souls claimed by her great-great-grandmother, Naomi the Gatekeeper.
With understanding came a measure of peace, and she accepted the legacy that so many of her ancestors despised.
Every time she slept, she spoke to the tortured spirits, slowly earning their trust and even adoration. As time went by she realized that the numbers of her wraith-like friends kept growing. She had thought that the only souls claimed by Naomi had been the fifteen million spoken of in legend, but there were more than that. Many. Many. Many more. It was said that Naomi had fallen into an endless slumber, hidden forever deep within the Crystalspine Reaches. But Karuma can’t help but wonder if she’s as “gone” as everyone thinks she is…

Karuma has never quite fit in with the other dragons. She’s always looking off into the distance, a look of longing on her face. When she first arrived at this clan she seemed to already know many of the residents, even flying up and embracing some of them.
She’s perfectly friendly, if a bit scatterbrained, but there’s something about her, some deep inner darkness that sends chills up the spine of even the most fearless dragon…
