Biography

Plaguebringer Bone Scrimshaw
The Giver
spacer
“Help me, Mother, as I anoint Your children,” she intoned, voice a low
sibilant rasp as she drew the Mother’s symbol with holy oil on the hatchling’s forehead. She could not feel the fever through the thick calluses on her hands, nor the softness of their fresh scales. “May they serve You faithfully in their life and may they hold Your tenants of Survival in their hearts.” She brought her hand up to smear the same oil in a line across the father’s face, his Wind colored eyes looking up at her nervously from where she hunched over them.
He had sought out a Necromancer for the Plaguebringer’s Blessing to
assuage his mate, Plague-born herself and suckled on tales of Necromancers. A wise choice, and as his reward he too would know the Mother’s Gift.
She stood, the shadow of her spines throwing stripes across their forms.
“In the name of our Mother, the Plaguebringer, I shall offer you the greatest blessing a Necromancer may.” She lifted a hand and a small green pustule began to form. The father shuffled back, hatchling held close.
“A simple blessing would be mor-”
“A gift for you and your family,” she interrupted, closing her fist on the
pustule hiding the Wyrmwound glow for only a moment before it burst, a fine pestilent mist of red and green spreading around her like a halo before it began to settle around them. It stuck to the fungal oil she had anointed them with.
Already she could see the scales beneath begin to bleed red.
“Mother’s Blessing, a taste of what Necromancers receive from Her. Feel
it as She marks you as Her Own. A child of Plague, Wind-Born no longer in Her eyes.” She let herself smile as she saw the red tinge begin to settle into his eyes, more reminiscent of those rare Plague-Green eyes than those he had been born with. A Gift, the greatest one she could offer.
