Biography
SEDGE
What happens when a Skydancer, a species that’s supposed to roam the skies of the Windswept Plateau, is unable to fly? No healer or mage has been able to diagnose what is wrong with this Skydancer’s wings. As a hatchling, his wings remained limp and heavy against his body. He was never able to learn how to fly and the most he can do, now that he’s grown up, is to move them just barely. “They aren’t strong enough,” a healer had said. “They just can’t support his weight.” No amount of practice or exercise could strengthen his wings, and he eventually had to come to terms with the fact that he would never be able to see the sights above the clouds, like the rest of his family could. But one day, he heard stories about a remote sanctuary located on top of the highest peaks of the Reedcleft Ascent. What if he could reach this place and live there, instead of down here, in Singer’s Brook? “You’ll never make it”, his siblings said. “You need to fly to get there. You’ll fall before you reach the first pillar.” But the young Skydancer had learned, throughout his life, how to move without wings. His legs were strong and his grip was sturdy. He could jump and climb, and he would prove himself by reaching the sanctuary of Rai. He bid his family goodbye and started his ascent. He climbed for days, climbed higher than his siblings had ever flown, and he really thought he would make it. But when he neared the highest pillars, where the wind was the most ferocious, he was swept up by a strong air current and he tumbled down to what would have been his demise…had he not found himself floating in mid-air, held up by a pair of sharp talons. He raised his head, still in shock, and his eyes met those of a yellow and green Spiral with a bright smile. “Need a hand?” she asked. He did not know it at the time, but his life had just been saved by the leader of the Zephyr Scouts, Tigerleaf. The Spiral dragon carried him the rest of the way. It wasn’t long before they passed through a cloud and reached the sanctuary, which was bustling with life and warmth. It was the most beautiful sight the Skydancer had ever seen. Tigerleaf set him down and asked if he wanted a tour. He nodded, unable to peel his eyes away from the view. He already knew it in his heart. He had found his home.
Happy holidays!!!
