A vulgar and aggressive young mirror on the outside, with a very typical delinquent-like personality. Ryuji Sakamoto is short-tempered and impulsive, which makes him react harshly to even the slightest of comments. He even seems proud of this status, and most people try to keep him at a distance. Look closer, however, and you'll find that he is actually a kind and compassionate person, who has a very strong set of morals and a great sense of justice. He doesn't want the people he cares about to suffer because of his actions, and feels very strongly about helping others who have been impacted by injustice. However, due his impulsivity, he can sometimes get others in trouble with his brash actions. He always tries his best to make up for this, though, and aims to right his own wrongs. He used to be part of a track team, but had to quit after a teacher broke his leg after Ryuji confronted him about his abuse of the athletes. He partially helped found the Phantom thieves in order to bring this very teacher to justice, and vowed to continue helping others under similar abuse. With his contract with the demon, William, he is capable of using lightning powers, and has increased physical strength.

With the disbanding of the Phantom Thieves after Yaldabaoth though, he's resolved to go to rehab for his leg, and get back into running. To do this, he moved into Central City to be closer to the rehab center. Even if he weren't a mirror, he always enjoyed the rush of running as fast as he can, and feeling the wind on his skin. Yeah, he'll probably never run on a competitive level again, but he wants to do it for himself. For his own happiness. He's happy for all the help Ren and the rest of the thieves gave him, but... this is something he's gotta do by himself. That's okay though, they're never more than a phone call away.

Sure, he'd love to return to Phantom Thievery some day. It was great fun, and the metaverse felt freeing, but he wants to feel free in reality again, too.

(Maruki's reality was nice at face value, but in the end, it made it so he would've never met the thieves, who he wouldn't give up for anything.)

Sometimes, when rehab doesn't wreck him too much, he trains with Sumire when she's available. As fellow athletes, they understand each other well and get along. While he didn't get to know her very well while he was still a Phantom Thief, but, well- taking down a god together sure forms bonds!
