Biography
Yggdrasil
World tree - Clan Elder |
|
B A C K G R O U N D
The branches of Yggdrasil extend far into the heavens, and the tree is supported by three roots that extend far away into other locations; one to the well Urðarbrunnr in the heavens, one to the spring Hvergelmir, and another to the well Mímisbrunnr. Creatures live within Yggdrasil, including the wyrm (dragon) Níðhöggr, an unnamed eagle, and the stags Dáinn, Dvalinn, Duneyrr and Duraþrór. The squirrel Ratatoskr runs across Yggdrasil's branches, bringing the "eagle's word” from the heavens above to the dragon Níðhöggr below." |

Concerned, the young dragons neared her hesitantly, but found no response, even though deep breaths gusted from her muzzle. The Pearlcatcher soon was fascinated by the other dragon as he could feel magic vibrating from her entire being. Upon his urging the two stayed with the old Imperial. Days would pass where they would bring her water and the flowers on her back would regain some life in the dim lights of the Shadow region. Her eyes eventually opened to the sounds of squabbling, one of them persistent and sharp, the other loud and bold. The large female named Yggdrasil, soon found out that the two would no longer leave her side. The Pearlcatcher's name was Loki and his adoptive brother, a proud Guardian, introduced himself as Thor. They were an odd pair and quite young to be on their own, speaking of each other as brothers yet not alike in any way. Too weary to answer the many questions that rolled from Loki's tongue, the Imperial decided not to voice her own doubts. |

Unwilling to upset the young Guardian, Yggdrasil awaited for an opportune time where Thor would hunt to finally answer some of Loki's enquiries. She had been sparse and cautious with her answers before, just as he had been. She hoped to avoid a direct clash, but had not missed the searching tendrils of energy groping at her core, no matter how careful and controlled they had been. "You are weak, yet you radiate magic and power. I can feel it thrumming in your entire being." The jet black dragon observed her calmly, daring her to deny his words with those deep green eyes of his. "Can you not control your powers?" Bemused, Yggdrasil smiled, gazing at the Pearlcatcher with knowing eyes. "You may be an adept enchanter, Loki, but you are far from understanding the powers that reside in this world." "Teach me, then." The words were uttered smoothly, no hint of desire or avarice in them. It surprised the great Imperial - she had expected for the shifty, cunning young one to try and sap away her magic instead. Every calculated word and move of the other dragon had spelled deceit to her. "Very well," Yggdrasil responded, a tranquility descending upon her. Yggdrasil soon learned from Thor why the two youngsters travelled alone. Concern, pity and pride were her silent emotions. It confirmed her suspicions that Loki was quite unlike his brother Thor and had made many mistakes. Yet she could not help but feel bad for both the dragons that had joined her and pride for a youngling like Thor to show such loyalty. |
She spoke of it openly with Thor, but only showed silent understanding to Loki. It was answered with gratitude, even though the black dragon was terrible at expressing it undisguisedly. With it being clear that neither of the parties had a clan to return to, it was wordlessly decided to stick together. Yggdrasil kept to her promise to teach Loki all she knew, even though she was still weak. She explained that she was traveling, but Shadow’s realm was weakening her greatly. Her life energy and magic thrived in sunlight, surrounded by life. It was decided then that they would move to Nature’s territory, as this had been Yggdrasil’s goal from the start. She would not answer the many questions about where she had come from or why she travelled alone. They would advance slowly, finding that the elder imperial was incapable of traversing large distances and avoiding other clans at all cost. They did not want to meddle with territorial dragons as they were at a great disadvantage. Yet they could not avoid all dragons and wild life. Other lone dragons came upon them and decided to stick with them, drawn in either by the friendly companionship or the odd magic Yggdrasil radiated. Though the group of dragons seemed to revolve around Yggdrasil and her goals, Loki was eventually and hesitantly chosen as the new clan’s leader. He had the air of a Patriarch around him even though he wasn’t hospital like Thor or Yggdrasil were. By the time the border of Shadow and Nature was reached, the small group of dragons had become a true clan. As much as Loki’s personality often deflected new dragons from wanting to join, Yggdrasil somehow nullified that with ease. It was as if she called others with her magic and once they had met her they would no longer leave. Everyone got their own role and part in the clan based on who they were and what they excelled in and were welcomed warmly by Yggdrasil. It was as if she were a centuries old, massive tree, where birds of every colour and with each their own cry found their home in to nestle. No matter whether they were lost or had a purpose when they came across her, they lingered all the same. |

The clan thrived in this time, with many new dragons and creatures joining. The time came where Yggdrasil settled down in a clearing and told all that this was their new home. A lair was made in an old, massive ash tree that nurtured the clan much like Yggdrasil did. A small lake and river nearby provided an area for Water dragons and a place to fish. Some dragons preferred to dig a lair between the roots of the hollow tree, forming rocky and earthy dens. Many Wind born dragons found a nesting place in the higher branches of the ash tree, sheltered by leaves and woven homes they had made from small branches. It was but a few months later when the tree and its surroundings were a mass of many different colours and filled with life wherever one would look. Each dragon got their own task, fitting with who they were and what they enjoyed doing. This is the home of the Guardians of the World Tree. |
