The most magically inclined in the clan, Metropolis devotes herself to the furthering of her abilities. Isobel openly loathes her. The rest of the clan is hesitant to speak to her out of a mixture of fear and respect, except for Umbra who likes pestering her and watching her work. She's offered to tutor budding magic users, but her offers are always turned down for better or worse. She's been keeping a close eye on Amdusias, who's natural inclination towards magic and blatant refusal to control his powers makes her a little nervous. She gets along quite well with Zant, and the two spend a lot of time talking about the movements of stars.

Regrets her distance from her daughter Beetle, who left the Fishybreath at a very early age to begin her own clan. She wonders if she could have made things easier for her, and looks back on her behavior with shame. After some attempts to reconnect, Beetle has become the center of Metropolis's universe, and the worried mother regularly sends letters and care packages to the Sootsnout clan, and visits as often as she can. Both clans are unused to her being so... normal, but M explains one cannot hope to fathom the mysteries of the universe, if they cannot appreciate what is sitting right before them.
