Terra was once a powerful warrior second only to Aqua. He grew frustrated and jealous of her and started heading down a dark path to prove himself to his mentor, whom he shared with Aqua and Ventus.

Ansem is actually manipulating him, using him like his own personal puppet. The Sundial imposter started following him as a hint that something was wrong with the dragon. However, since no one knows the lore behind the bear, the subtle warning has gone unnoticed.
