A creature of mould and rot is this guardian. Plague eggs are known for their slimy yet firm exterior as they incubate in the bubbling nests filled with the swirling green liquid of the Wyrmwound, but the egg Virulence hatched from was dry and cracking, shedding flakes of its exterior at any touch. It was a dark, disgusting brown, and it turned to dust as he hatched, giving up on protecting the hatchling almost instantly. His scales were undeveloped- spongey, constantly damp and smelling. His limbs were often slow and sluggish, disconnected from what he told them to do.

Before his Search could ever even begin, he was cast out of his former home and chargeless. This started his journey at a young age, the guardian desperate to find the one thing he could connect to. He grew up travelling the Scarred Wasteland, and only exploring further past the pestilence’s borders once he reached adulthood, feeling brave enough to do so.

He returned to the Scarred Wasteland chargeless. Mournful, Virulence unknowingly started self destructive behaviours. Long-time exposure to the fumes around the Wyrmwound have affected him greatly, plaguing him with nightmares and hallucinations. After a few near falls into the sickly pool, Virulence found himself heading towards the Abiding Boneyard.

He found his way into The Trial of Skulls after a run-in with a guardian by the name of Nightsteel. She piqued his interest, being an undead nature dragon- I mean, how is that even possible? She had claimed to be reanimated, a living corpse. A zombie.
Fascinating.

Two elements of complete opposites coming together to bring a guardian like herself to life. His hallucinations filled with her, following him around when he knew he was alone. Calling to him. They met often. They bonded over both being chargeless; her’s lost to time, and Virulence’s never existing to begin with. There was something about her. She pulled him towards her like no other dragon ever could. He felt so connected to her. He had a friend.

The day he was asked to return to The Trial of Skulls with her, Virulence realised what was happening. And Nightsteel knew too.
He had found his charge, and she had found hers.
