The problem with fire is that it destroyed most vegetation that hadn't evolved to face the heat. The plants that did evolve weren't as beautiful as some of the more delicate plants, but they were still beautiful in their own right. Flowers that could withstand lava flow long enough to spread their seeds to someplace safe for the next generation. Then there were the plants that were strong. Rods like steel stood firm against the ever heating ground. Plants that forced lava to travel around them with carefully placed leaves in circles to protect their delicate roots. These roots were Osiris's home. Fire eggs were stored in lava, to give them the energy to survive. Fire eggs that grew cold turned to ash. They crumbled under their own weight, the heat from within destroying them. Thus, it was important that Fire eggs were kept hot. Hot as the lava that gushed from the earth. Yet Osiris's egg was cold. His egg had tumbled far from his nest, being carried in the currents of the lava, before a gush of it sent him flying. His egg landed on the roots of the plants, yet by the time he got there, his egg had cooled to the point the roots were not affected. The plants grew around him, the roots spreading around his egg in an odd embrace. By the time he hatched, Osiris wasn't quite alive. He wasn't dead either. Nor was he undead. In fact, there was no word to describe what he was. He was more in between it all. Sitting on the fine line between alive and dead, blurring it under his claws. His egg had somehow survived under the shelter of the roots that had surrounded him, keeping him just warm enough to hatch, yet he was underdeveloped. Rather small, but still just as strong as anyone else. The plans were the first thing that welcomed Osiris to the world. The next was lava and fire. The third were the dead. Scared, alone, and cold, Osiris crawled out of the protection of his nest of plants and made his way uphill. He wanted to find some creatures like him. Someone to explain. What he found stayed with him. He wasn't disgusted or shocked or sad. He was... neutral, but he did feel a pang of grief for the loved ones who lost someone precious to them. The bodies of the dead were displayed out for all to see. Something had taken them from this world. Osiris felt it, in his bones. He had to take care of the bodies. He prepared the bodies for burial and sent the spirits off with a short prayer to anyone that would listen. Then he left. He left his home land to explore, to find a place where he felt like he belonged. The world outside was unforgiving to him. He had no idea how to survive on his own. But he knew plants. He knew what was edible, what wasn't, and what could be used as medicine. He used the plants to survive and continued to wander the world. He learned of the gods and goddesses, of the Beast clans, of dragons. War seemed to spread across the land between dragons and beast. Yet the world continued to spin. Osiris then, after traveling for years, knew he was alone. Everywhere he came across, there were bodies. He didn't know how to explain it, but he knew he had to care for them. To protect the dead and dying. He felt it was his responsibility, and so was caring for plants. No matter what, even if there was a battle going on around him, Osiris charged into the thick of battle to drag the dead or dying out and give them someone to be with. He held many claws and paws and wings in his time, helping creatures move onto the next stage. He worked hard after they passed to bury them properly. To make sure they had something to take with them beyond, to pay the toll. He protected their graves the best he could, letting the burial sites become overrun with vegetation to act as a natural burial. That was when he met her. In the thick of battle. Osiris was dragging a fallen guardian warrior out of the battle grounds when he first caught glimpse of her wings. He could feel her overwhelming power of war. This didn't stop Osiris. He kept working hard, trying to avoid dangerous areas unless he had to make his way into them. After the battle, the other dragon approached him. Her name was Ankt, a member of a nearby clan. They needed someone to care for the bodies. Osiris, knowing he was needed, agreed. The dead needed respect and for someone to care for them. Osiris would be happy to oblige, and the best part is that—when with a clan—he would have time to garden. It seemed like a win-win situation. Yet word got out quickly. There was a dragon who cared for the dead. Who helped the mourning send their loved ones off in peace. Other dragons soon made their way to him, asking for his help. Osiris agreed. He couldn't leave anyone in pain. Not when he could do something to help them. He and Anubis, who had become his partner, worked hard to care for the dead. Yet only Osiris works on dragons from other clans. He doesn't mind this. Everyone deserves a proper burial.
