Biography
Evenus is an old dragon. In fact he may be the oldest of the dragons in the Thicket. He was born of the bitter cold winds sworling deep in the forests of the Gladekeeper's kingdom on the Night of the Nocturne. No one is really quite sure who is parents are, but that isn't important. He considers himself a child of the earth itself and lives life as such.
In his younger years, Evenus was recruited to the Gladekeeper's armies to fight as a wizard. His skills were invaluable, and he helped sway the battle several times in their favor, but that is in his past now, and he's not actually proud of the carnage he was asked to commit.
His Heinu familiar was given to him by a friend in the army; as they died they asked Evenus to take their friend and give him a good home. You can see this Heinu flying around the Thicket many a day. He is a very friendly creature and is easy to get along with.
Nowadays, one can find Evenus helping run a school for young magically-inclined dragons. They are not as prolific in the Nature realms as they are in the arcane, but that doesn't bother him. Most of the magic they perform in the Gladekeeper's lands are for the betterment of nature and to help things grow instead of spells for violence and the like. Many consider him the headmaster of the school, the regular teachers do anyway, and while he does all the work, he definitely doesn't consider himself to deserve that title.
I'm just an old coot who likes to show kids the wonders of our world he thinks of himself, but the rest know better.
He's a formidable foe if ever prodded to action, and they feel safe knowing he's watching them.
As for a mate? There was one other hatched on the same night as himself those many years ago. They were born of the same energies in the dead of winter, and sometimes Evenus wondered if this meant they were meant to be mates.
Hypsela didn't mind, and they had several nests together, their offspring spreading among the various flights and creating their own lives in the world. None of their babes have remained with them, but that is okay with them. (After all they've had over 40 children, their nest would be a little full, don't you think?)
The reality of many of their children having died in war is depressing, but they know such is life, and at least they've gone to serve various dieties with honor.
