While most skilled mages source their power from a well of magic within their bodies, this kind of innate power is absent in Charming. Instead, Charming acquired his magic artificially through a ritual which "grafted" wild magic to his skin. This magic manifests itself in rather violent sparks and shimmers across Charming's skin that, while completely harmless to him, can give anyone who touches him a nasty shock or burn. As a result, he tends to avoid physical contact with others unless he has either covered his skin or is actively casting a spell on someone.

Another unusual trait of his magic is that it requires Charming to be as clean as possible in order to remain at full power. Similarly to how clothes block currents of magic from easily leaving his body, dirt and grime also weakens the effects his spells can have. This has in turn caused Charming to have a relatively intensive self-care routine that better mimics the hygiene of a mammalian beastclan than that of a dragon. While other dragons may see him as something of a neat-freak, Charming's immense amount of skill and power is usually enough to keep them quiet about it.
