Biography

IRVING
Diplomat

As Diplomat, it is Irving's job to intervene with an olive branch when the peace seems to be within view. While the clan tries to keep positive relations with Beastclans and other dragon clans whenever possible, mostly through the efforts of Shadowspark and his daughter, Rose (with whom Irving is a very good friend), there are times when small-scale conflicts break out. While the clan is capable of fighting quite valiantly, especially with Orkeck's leadership and the battle participation of warriors such as Honorbound, avoiding war whenever possible is a strategy much preferred by most of the clan. To this end, Irving is often deployed as a non-combatant, to negotiate some sort of truce or treaty with any opposing forces.

The philosophy of "listening to one's heart" is one that Irving always keeps in mind, forcing himself to focus on the issue at hand long enough to discuss peace effectively. He does this out of love for the clan, and a desire to see everyone safe and happy, instead of embroiled in dangerous conflict.

In a sense, Irving is a sort of "Emergency Ambassador," engaging with foreign dragons and beasts only after the situation has become rather dire. Despite this, though, he never loses hope. He tries to remember that, even during times of great conflict, the other side always has a subjective opinion. War occurs when both sides believe that they are in the right, and Irving understands this. He does his best to listen, keeping in mind that whoever he is negotiating with has hopes and fears, just as he does and as his own clanmates do. For this reason, he has a well-deserved reputation of fairness and understanding.
"It is a beautiful necessity of our nature to love something." - Douglas Jerrold
