Restrike

The storm is approaching rapidly. More rapidly than expected. The council of mages has come together in an emergency meeting. How would they save the clan from such an unnaturally large and extremely dangerous hurricane. Eventually, after a heated debate, they come to an agreement. One mage will use the weather repellent spell, while being powered by the other mages from a few hundred meters back. It’s incredibly dangerous, the caster can die… But one brave Sandsurge steps forward to be the tribute. She’s not even a high-ranking mage, but she has proficiency with weather based magic. So she argues that she is perfect for this.

The mages prepare the Sandsurge with tomes, glyphs, talismans, even hexes to protect her from death. The storm is raging closer and closer, and soon enough she tells everyone to get in position.

They cannot delay this much longer.

The Sandsurge stands alone on the edge of the cliff. The other mages, behind her, start their power transfer. A low humming, a hymn sung by dozens of voices. The Sandsurge closes her eyes and feels the magic pouring into it. She is instructed to only cast the spell when she no longer feels the magic inside of her build. While it only takes a couple of minutes, it feels like it takes forever. But then, as the Sandsurge feels her fins flare with magic, and her body almost collapses because of the excess of power, she casts the spell straight into the storm.

Everybody watches as the storm lights up and struggles against the magic. The light within the clouds grows and grows until one single, massive lighting bolt hits the Sandsurge point blank. Bright light covers the area, and the others shield their eyes. When they open them again, the storm is gone. The mages quickly run towards the fallen Sandsurge. It’s silent for a moment, before electricity starts crackling all around her body, and her eyes open back up.

And on that day, Restrike was born.
