What is Pride? Pride is a celebration of and protest for queer, non-binary, non-traditional, non-straight individuals and their relationships, their lives, their loves, and their communities. Why do we need Pride? Because Pride is necessary. Necessary for those who have a queer community and those who don't. It's about visibility and strength. It's about acceptance. It's about taking pride in who you as a person are - in a society that has evolved to be irrefutably stacked against you.

LGBT is both an acronym and a beginning. It refers to an incredibly diverse collection of romantic and gender orientations and identities. Lesbian, gay, bi, and transgender might be the basis of the queer community, but there are queers of all kinds. Asexual, queer, non-binary, genderfluid, two-spirited and other closed cultures, intersex, the list goes on. With so many individuals now able to claim some space space of awareness for themselves, it might be easy to think that they are becoming the majority. That is not the case. We've come so far, and we still have far to go, for so many members of our community, in so many places around the world.

So have Pride. Be proud. Because that is the only way to be you.
