Biography
sentry
Phlegmatic and faceless, Rane silently stalks the domiciles of the domain as the Last Brood's sentry. Her profession is a lonesome one, patrolling crags and tunnels tirelessly throughout the night while her clanmates lie asleep. She hardly interacts with other dragons, save the monarchs during daylight, and keeps to herself strictly behind a demeanor seemingly void of sentiment or excitement. Additionally, she never talks, nor utters any audible speech, for that matter. It is often rumored by some that her tongue was cut out as a newborn, though this claim has never been validated. Whether incapable of speech or simply refusing to do so with a passion, she communicates solely through body language, though she's usually on the receiving end of contact rather than the initiator. Rane possesses exceptional magical ability, a durable dragon and more than capable fighter. While seldom leaving the confines of the domain, her position holds her responsible for surveilling and guarding the infrastructure of the clan against all forms of infiltration and attack, a task which she dedicates herself to religiously.
She holds no hobbies or passions, not indulging in the conventional festivities or pleasures shared by the rest of the clan. The majority of her time not actively on duty is used for sleeping, even then only partaking of rest in sporadic shifts and never far from the proximity of one of the monarchs. The small amount of leisure she does take is spent in complete privacy for the purposes of eating and grooming. She does this in a private chamber hidden well away from the rest of the domain's facilities allotted to her for personal use. This is the only time in which she removes her paper mask. Similar to her voice, her face is something never revealed in the presence of others. Her reasons for this discretion are unknown, as she bears no significant scars or deformities. The uniform she wears are the restored garments recovered from the remains of an old jester hailing from the days of Greater Methclan shortly before its demise.
Rane was brought to the clan as an orphaned hatchling from Wind Flight territory by Chalk, the wind emissary. Ahuilitzli subsequently vouched for her adoption into the Last Brood, which was approved by Narco, having been swayed as per usual by his wife's gentle tongue. As such, she was raised by both Ahuilitzli and Chalk into adulthood. Despite her somewhat obscure and foreign origins, her loyalty to the clan is unquestionable to all. The brutish patriarch himself, partially out of the indignance at the notion of needing his own personal protection, holds enough faith in the sentry to assign her as his wife's primary bodyguard. Ahuilitzli, in her nurturing disposition, showers Rane in frequent affection and friendly conversation as a result. And though she doesn't particularly care for the loving attention of the matriarch or the antics of her clanmates, she bears through it all wordlessly behind that mask, intent on protecting them at their most vulnerable. And through this, perhaps, quietly sharing her own endearment of them in the only way she knows how.
