D'or
Keeper of Treasure
1st Tier: Trade Services

"Surely such a fine piece is worth a million treasure!"
D'or is a lady of money, though something of an amoral collector and ruthless to those who threaten her massive hoard. Ousted from her previous lair for treasure mysteriously going missing from the communal store, she arrived at this lair with a sack full of treasure that she dropped in front of Rosdor as an entrance fee. That alone wouldn't normally placate Rosdor, but she found that D'or took well to guarding the lair treasure hoard with her life... though D'or did go through a probation period where Rosdor watched carefully for any skimming. Thankfully D'or seemed to have left her more dubious collecting methods behind.

Mate: D'argent. His love for gems equals her love treasure, and together they watch over the money hoards of the lair.

Treasure

D'or was still walking with ungainly steps a full five days after laying her nest. "Five," she had huffed under her breath. "Five eggs! Lightweaver grant me nothing but single-egg nests for the rest of my days!" Still, much as she would like to let the whole thing be forgotten, she did have to attend the hatching, if for no other reason than propriety.

The nests were open-air, at the highest point in the lair save for the archers' parapets; the nests had to be open to the ambient Arcane magic in the air to allow them to absorb the energy necessary for their growth. D'or met Amira at the bottom of the stairway up to the nests. She managed a tight smile. They went up together, D'argent and Guardian already stirring the eggs into awakening with gentle nudges.

Eventually all five hatched. The usual: all were pink of body, and their wings and gembond scattered shades of brown, red, orange and pink. D'or glanced over all of them once, didn't see one with any matching colours, and turned on her heel to leave. She opened the door to the stairway and met face-to-face with the wide Wind eyes of Shi-Long.

"By the Lightweaver's good name, you startled me!" D'or squawked, crest standing straight up in fright and stepping out of the way of the mystic. Shi-Long paid her no mind, eyes entranced and staring at one of the hatchlings, a simple pink and brown one.

"No doubt," he whispered, as D'or cocked her head to the side. "It is certain!"

There was the scraping of metal claws on stone, and Rosdor stepped out into the light of the nests. All but Shi-Long bowed shortly to her, and she sidled up next to the mystic, looking the hatchling up and down. The little Skydancer was looking around, bright pink eyes staring up at the stars and the glowing foliage of the Starwood Strand. "I see," Rosdor said. "Bring this one straight to Serenity's room."

D'or darted her eyes between Rosdor and the hatchling. "Er, Lady Rosdor, if I may?" she said as Rosdor turned to go. The Mirror paused, looking at D'or with a gaze that was not annoyance, so she took it as a sign to continue, "What... is it exactly you see in this hatchling? I mean, her wings and gembond don't even match! We never can sell the hatchlings for more than six thousand treasure, I don't see why she'd be-"

"D'or," Rosdor spoke suddenly, cutting the Skydancer off, "This hatchling is touched with significant enough Arcane power that I've seen fit to reserve her and see what comes of it. Shi-Long tells me she may even be blessed by the Arcanist himself. I will not squander a potential messiah for the price of six thousand treasure."

D'or paused. Her eyes flashed, the odd light of the Starfall Isles making her Light eyes shine with almost lunatic brightness. "Lady Rosdor... the hatchling is my own flesh and blood. Surely you wouldn't just... take her away? All us drudge workers here in the lair submit our hatchlings to the nursery of our own free will—because other clans will take them, give them homes we don't have room for and jobs to do. And, so far as I'm concerned, I own her right now... and you're the new home that wants her. So... what are you offering?"

Every soul in the room froze, except for Rosdor. Guardian and Amira stared, open-mouthed. D'argent, too, stared, but with disappointment in his eyes. Rosdor looked down her nose at the Skydancer. "Your price?"

D'or smiled, and the expression was easy and kind... and fake. "Surely such a fine piece is worth a million treasure!"

Rosdor's expression hardened, and for a second everyone thought she would simply overrule the outrageous Skydancer's price. But she said, "A million treasure's worth in silks and jewellery. The money itself goes to the craftsdragons, not you."

The Skydancer's smile faltered, for only a second, but she kept it plastered on. "Fine then!" she chirped. She swept past Rosdor to the nest, patted the tiny hatchling on the head roughly and said, "Thanks to you, mama's got a new pair of leg silks! Enjoy your new mommy!"

The next day, she wore her golden silks to her post, glinting with every step, looking for all the world like the thing she most treasured.
