He is oficially a member of Qilin subspecie and he is a FALSE QILIN

This little qilin was condemned to be a sacrifice when Lobanega rescued him, and in a very similar way as she did with Seji, Lobanega took Shade under her wing, adopted him and helped him to show his true self, the only difference with his adoptive brother is that Shade does get along quite well with Tydus and to Lobanega's horror he seems to be adopting the behavior and customs of the male imperial.
Now he lives quietly with the other Qilins of the clan, but due to his past, he is distrustful and quite surly with those he does not know, but loyal to the death of those who have managed to gain his trust. He is a dragon that tends to bite first and ask later.
