Biography

" The enemy of my enemy is my friend. "
T he desert sands make everything within them much more obvious. Upon the blank gold canvas, alliances are written, rivalries are brewed, and romance is painted, intensified by the scorching heat. However, after the sun sets, that is when things truly begin to emerge. Those who know this will sleep with a sword at their side.
This is the tale of the Barghest, Cathbad. |
The streets of Lithiopolis were never not packed: camels burdened with goods lumbered down the roads, squeezed between the larger dragon breeds carrying their own baskets. Smaller dragons and Beastclanners scampered around on the edges, careful not to be trampled. The merchants' stalls on the side were so tightly packed their wares spilled onto each other. Thankfully, Cathbad didn't have to suffer the crowds. The Aistirah Cafe - where she now sat nursing a cup of tea - was sectioned off by a metal fence from the main street. She watched the chaos on the road with an amused smile. "Is that alright, Madame Cathbad?" She turned back to her drinking companion, who was frowning. "Sorry?" "Did you not hear a word of what I just said?" Aleks admonished. The Bogsneak huffed, flaring their fins. "My colleague and I will pay you half before you depart, and the other half only after you've successfully escorted the caravan to Ol-Mashuu." "Right, right, yeah, that'll work." "You're not listening to me." "No, I heard you. It's just-" The Wildclaw took a slow sip. She knew Aleks was fuming across the table, but that was precisely the point: in any exchange, Cathbad had to dominate. Verbally, physically, or otherwise - if she could play the other side, she was satisfied. "-I am a mercenary of... great skill - maybe not great renown - and I expect to be compensated accordingly." "You want to be paid more than what I'm already offering!?" "30 crescents isn't an awful lot, that'll buy me only about... three camels? And anyone knows a worthwhile merchant will want at least six." "You're- you're not a merchant! What could you need camels for!?" "Who knows. I'm just saying I want to be paid more." "...You were the only merc we were able to find. You think that makes you more valuable?" The Bogsneak slammed his paws on the table. "If anything, that makes you worse than the rest of the flea-ridden thrice-cursed lot! You should be thanking me that I'm even considering you at all!" notes - from cool crow village that i'm totally going to make - sister is xianhong's mom, who was also a starcrow
