Hatched alone in this world, Vanguard made his way in this life by relying on others kindness and often learning the hard way. He's friendly personality never suffered for this but his tendency to nurture and protect are stronger than your usual dragon. He could never stand to be in one place for to long, always searching for what he needs to protect and enjoying the freedom of exploration.
Vanguard, injured and exhausted had crashed not to far from Melodies lair. He had been on his way to the warm sands of the Shifting Expanse when he passed into an aggressive dragons territory and was outnumbered in a one sided fight. Melody came across him in the snow and brought him into her lair, caring for his wounds and protecting him from the cold.
Once Vanguard could open his eyes and they looked at one another properly for the first time they both felt that they found what they needed to protect. Together they have made a haven in the ice and are friendly to all who need shelter.
