History
She had the most terrible feeling she was lost. The little Tundra had been wandering this forest for hours, stepping quietly among the massive mossy roots of the old growth. The peaty smell of rot and growth pervaded the air. Everything about her was green-- brownish-green detritus littered the forest floor; green moss grew on the wide trunks all around; large, many-lobed leaves in all shades of green tossed quietly in the whispering wind. Even the light was a dappled yellow-green that reminded her of the broad green plains of home. But if she stayed any longer here, she was apt to turn green herself.

The Tundra turned in place, searching for a familiar sight. Had she padded past that slowly-rotting log? Had she come from between those two huge oaks, or had she walked through the clearing over there? Slowly, she sat back on her haunches between two of the gnarled roots snaking across the forest floor. She had to admit it to herself- she was never getting home. At least it was warm here under the protective leaves.

She awoke slowly, wondering when she’d dozed off and how long she’d been asleep. As she blinked the sleep from her eyes in the dusky light, she became aware of a huge presence, as if something was watching her just outside the range of sight and hearing. Confused, she tried to focus on the sensation, and slowly a dragon came into view before her- the largest Nocturne she had ever seen. At first glance, he looked as if he was made of the forest itself. He was a brown-grey, with massive shimmering leafy wings. He wore an oaken bough draped across his shoulders, and his great head was adorned with two sets of antlers.

Hello, little one, his voice boomed silently in her head. His golden eyes seemed to glow in the fading light as he regarded her. The corners of his mouth twitched in amusement as he continued, You are safe in my forest, child. But if you truly wish to return home, I can send you there.

Not knowing what to say, she simply nodded. Though she was absolutely sure they’d never met, she felt completely safe in the presence of this great dragon. She stood in place as he arched his sinuous neck down to gently touch his snout to hers. The world shimmered for a moment with a light even greener than the forest, and a sudden swirl of dust made her sneeze. When she opened her eyes, the forest was gone, and in its place rolled a great, golden plain. Instead of ancient sentinels, waist-high grass swayed in all directions. The Tundra twirled in place, and sent up a silent thanks to the spirit who sent her home.
