Cobalt
The Guarded

Cobalt was always a temperamental boy. He didn't like to talk about his feelings, so no one grew close to him for a long time. He didn't want others to think that he was weak, so he quickly grew a guarded exterior, never showing weakness. He seemed to care too much about how he was viewed. Hatchlings grew scared of him, and the other dragons learned to leave him alone. Little did the others know, Cobalt only wanted to connect with someone. He didn't find himself drawn to anyone in the lair and he feared that he would be alone forever. His mother would try speaking to him, but he would brush her off, not wishing to tell anyone what he was feeling. One day, he looked over at another dragon and locked eyes. He grew angry. He didn't want to like the one he fell for. He cared too much about what others thought of him, so his love would never truly come into an open discussion with the lair, though when they looked at each other, it was obvious that they were in love. One night, the wind was violent and even the iciest dragon shivered. Cobalt looked across the lair to the Wildclaw nests and watched his mate shiver. He looked around, everyone was huddled with their family, friends or their mates. He got up and stalked over to his mate. He curled up beside the Wildclaw and quickly found that the shivering stopped. It was no secret. Cobalt knew that it was out there. He was in love, and no one could stop him from falling. No one brought it up to him, they were just happy that he was happy. "A rose?" Eminent asked noticing the new accessory in Cobalt's mouth. "It was a gift," Cobalt said carefully watching Eminent's reaction. The blue Nocturne seemed suspiciously pleased for him and nodded. Eminent had clearly already seen the dragon that had a matching rose and now he could see who had come to be Cobalt's partner.

After a while Cobalt grew tired of his mate being so willing to provide hatchlings for the lair. He began to wonder if their love was fading. To avoid any further questioning, Cobalt simply walked over to his mate and said, "We're done," and walked away. A series of shocked looks covered the faces of the other dragons, but his, now former, mate stood where he had been with a sad look of acceptance. Cobalt wasn't interested in changing others, or changing who they were attracted to, but he didn't want to share his mate with anyone, especially when he had never actually been with anyone else before.A while after Cobalt and Zircon had broken up, Cobalt began to move on. Cobalt was sitting at the entrance of the lair when he saw Obsidian and a hooded Spiral coming towards him. Obsidian was there for Midnight, but Cobalt found that his attention was drawn to the strong Spiral that flowed into the cave. After some investigation, Cobalt realised that the Spiral was Stygian, a former hatchling that had been born in his lair, but had gone home to the Shadow flight with Stygian's father, Obsidian. Cobalt was immediatley drawn to Stygian. He wore a mysterious cowl, and face wraps that hid himself from the world, but Cobalt's eyes were stuck on him. After building up enough courage to walk over, Cobalt blurted out. "You're beautiful," and immediately turned tail and ran away. It was in the dead of night when it hit him, like a pile of Snapper's being dropped on his head, he realised it. He realised his Charge. Could it be? |
