Biography
T'was the morning before christmas, when all through the lair
Not a dragon was stirring, not a tundra hair;
The horde was cleaned and organized with care,
In hopes that a nocturne soon would be there;
The hatchlings were nestled all snug in their beds;
While visions of squeaky moths danced in their heads;
And Rango in his 'kerchief, and Kato in his cap,
Had just woken their brains from a long winter's nap,
When out in the trees there arose such a clatter,
Kato sprang from his bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the root window he flew like a flash,
Tore open the vines and pulled the leafy sash.
The dawn the caphony of the Gladevines kept low,
Brought the ponds and tree trunks to a glow,
When what to Kato's wondering eyes did appear,
But a miniature fae and her coli grinders dear,
With a little old dragon so quick and lively,
He knew in a moment she must be Peffeferi.
More rapid than eagles her coursers they came,
And she whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
"Now, Tonwik! now, Gracilis! now Lilith and Kahya!
On, Valkryie! on, Lutea! on, Uriel and Lamia!
To the window! to the wall! (bringing a groan from all)
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"
As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;
So over the treetops the coursers they flew
With a sack fat with mystery, and Peffef too—
And then, in a twinkling, Kato heard on the roof
The sound of a sack falling with a poof.
As he drew in his head, and was turning around,
Down the trunk the bag came with a bound.
It appeared no worse for wear from landing in their digs,
But for its burlap all tarnished with branches and twigs.
With tepid claws, Kato opened the pack,
To find a Nocturne egg sporting a crack!
His eyes—how they twinkled! Such gift, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
The egg was set down in a nest like a wreath,
As Kato pried the shell away with his teeth;
The shell fell away, exposing the reptile baby,
With magma membrane around it - Fire element, maybe;
She had a funny face and a little round belly
Her wing membranes red like a bowl full of jelly.
And her body! Magenta like nothing ever seen!
Rango laughed when he saw it, having arrived on the scene;
A wink of her eye and a twist of her head
Soon gave Kato to know he had everything to dread;
He spoke not a word, speechless (and blinded too)
But gave a pat on her head to part some more goo,
Well, he had wanted a Nocturne, and a Nocturne he got,
Peffeferi certainly had quite a plot!
Outside, a fae to her team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But Kato heard her exclaim, ere she flew out of sight—
“Merry Christmas losers - this was damn worth the flight!”
