Be warned, though: one taste of their food, and you will never be able to leave. The Autumn Court is most well known for granting questing dragons prosperity, but only if they can be convinced to part with it...

His mother had called it freedom; had insisted that this world which had felt so wrong to his senses the moment he had been aware enough to remember it, was an escape from tyranny and fickle whim. Arrion has never believed as such. The air itself was bitter with rot and decay, clogged with the unbearable over-ripe filth of mortals and mortality. Certainly, there was some advantage in the sheer difference between their kind and mortals, in what he could gain from them, but it always paled next to the stories he rarely cajoled from the self-professed escapee.

He has always wanted those stories, wanted for them to be more than a dream beyond the horizon, but the details he managed to wheedle from his mother were always vague and nondescript. Nothing that would tell him how to return beyond the Veil she had torn through so many years ago. All his life has been devoted to tracking down how to do it himself. Even if the tyranny his mother warned of does exist beyond, it will be worth the reward if even a fraction of her stories are true.

For all his years of effort, tracing rumors to dead ends, for all the resources lost to failed rituals, for all the shivers of his being and the certainty that he is so close yielding nothing, his success is almost anticlimactic. A step between trees, bowed over by the wind, in the deep, untouched grove far from civilization, and he feels the air around him change though nothing at all seems different. It wasn't even a true attempt; only a walk to clear his mind.

And when he finds the Court itself, there is no turning back.
